I recently disassembled a Voit 50 Fathom (VRC-2) and discovered something that I've never seen before - a small oval metal foil tag under the bottom box cover that appears to be a serial number. It's a silver tag with blue numbers and reads "211059". Has anyone ever seen this before? Most regulators were serialized and so I've always wondered why these and the early USD Jet Airs were not.

Yes but is it removeable? Like a sticker? Like it could fall off inside the housing on its own?

Yes, it is a decal and apparently 95% of them must have fallen off because this is the first one I've ever seen.

It does look a bit too fancy and high-numbered to be a shop repair number tag, doesn't it.

I aquired a blue 50 Fathom top can. It is a long story but JFYI, it had an oval shaped area in exactly that postion that was not stained or faded so I suspect a similar decal was affixed there.

Thats what's making me think its a mfr' lot number or something, but not an inspection tag. Who's ever heard of inspector 211059?

Nem Recently I have had the chance to look at four blue 50 fathom cans and two of them had the oval "stain" on them but no stickers. I will keep my eyes open on the next ones I have to look at.
