Reading the forum every day or two there rarely is anything actually hew to talk about. Vintage diving is losing interest as weve all seen or done it all. Sure there are threads that touch on worn out rehashed stuff thats been around for a long time. Have any new ideas for topics"? Ill give you a few, than you cuys think of what you can do to give this place a kick in the butt! First, who has seen the original "operation undersea" Disney tv show from 1955? Are there copies of it available anywhere? Next, has anyone seen, or have pictures they can post of the free standing U.S. Divers pressboard display from 1959, that held all the gear, with a nice promotioal background. It was white, black, and yellow colored. It held spearguns, doublehosers, and masks.... everything. You could check the gear out right there on the showroom floor. Neat. Next.. What dump did us divers haul all their surplus outdated stock to to get rid of it. All those hoses, and other regulator parts from the 1950's and 60's that wernt selling any more, and they were paying taxes on? Well theres some ideas. Can you comment on any of these, or maybe you can give some fresh imput of your own. Use your brains. Exercise is good for you. Carol

Broxton Carol, First, any relation to Broxton Chuck (it seems like the same kitty) Second, I'd like you to take this thread and put it into the General Discussion area. That's where we need new ideas. Concerning the USD old materials, I tried to get some of the original materials for the UDS-1, and was told that it had all been lost to a fire in the 1980s. There was still some around, but in France because that's where the work on the UDS-1 was done. So apparently a lot was lost to that fire. John

Ill try to answer your questions. First, the thread.. Its here in the old gear dept, as thats what its primarily about. if anyone gets a thought... (unlikely) THEY can drop it in the right column! That shouldnt be too hard to do. Now you ask about broXton kitty.... kittys name was "kitty" She was killed by a murderous hawk. Revenge is mine said Chuck. He took a shot at that bird from 400 yards with the 308 with iron sights, and the second that trigger let off, that bird was in the air! Bullet must have come within a foot of him. I was there and saw it. My name is carol and I'm an old dear friend of chucks, a girl diver that likes kitties too so I took off the name broXton Chuck, and changed it to ME. Chuck used to call me "broXton Carol" so thats what I am! . I knew Chuck, and he let me have the column to keep it up. Also I have all his old broXtons and stuff. I dove one of them just a month ago. Thats the real stuff! I need to tell all of you that Chuck died some time ago. Sorry to be so blunt, but it will happen to us all. Since we both had such close interests, and similar memories, we thought it only fitting that I should continue in his place, except in my name. Kitty was close to us both. Such a gift that animal was.

Such a gift that animal was. Thank you for the clarification. I don't care where the topic is, as long as people will see it and respond. RIP Chuck; but I'll enjoy BroXton Carol carrying on. Actually, there are a lot of new ideas out there, and some are starting to be worked on. I've heard of a balanced single stage regulator, for instance. And the possibility that another new double hose could be coming too. I'm working on underwater swimming concepts, some of which are very old, and some brand new. I'll be talking about those later. Anyway, glad to see some life here. John

I might be wrong, but wayyy back in 1997, when Dan first started the Vintage Scuba Supply web site, I think he had me put a pic of that display on the front page. Who knows where it is now, but I think that's what it was... I'll ask him next time I email him. Now I'm curious to see it again myself! Thanks, Carol, for bringing it up. Maybe someone else will find it before we do.

I believe this is the display. Photo courtesy of the Harold Edgerton collection: The woman in the photo is Simone Cousteau. If you have not seen the Edgerton collection you are missing out. edgerton-digital-collections.org-Ryan

Have any new ideas for topics"? (...) maybe you can give some fresh imput of your own. Use your brains. Exercise is good for you. Carol I understand why the main focus is on regulators and related scuba-specific gear, but such an exclusive emphasis frustrates me as a vintage equipment snorkeller who doesn't scuba-dive. I'd love to see, and contribute to, a few threads about the historical development of masks, fins, snorkels and suits. I'd also like to see more reviews of vintage diving books, particularly period instruction manuals.
