Hi all I hope with todays events here that you and all your loved ones are safe & well...Thoughts go out to those who are still waiting to hear as phone lines have been overloaded and they are not able to contact anyone. Sorry it's a bit off the (vintage) but well worth a mention. Kim

Kim,
All of us, I'm sure, are thinking a great deal about the people in London, and Great Britian. I know it is in my thoughts a lot. There's been a great deal of coverage here, and Americans can relate to what's happening in London yesterday, today, and will be on-going for quite a while.
Quite some time ago, I decided to minimize my use of oil, in the form of gasoline, by bicycle commuting to work. I do this every workday except Friday (I've been hit by cars twice on Fridays, and won't give them another chance on a Friday). When I dive, you may have noticed that it's always been to the same spot, High Rocks on the Clackamas River. It meets my criterion for a "local" diving spot, in that it's within 1/2 hour driving time. While I would like to dive salt water more, it is a 2-3 hour drive to anywhere (Oregon Coast or Puget Sound). Again, this is my personal response to the international situation, to minimize my use of oil products.
Today is Friday, and usually I drive. My wife had encouraged me to walk to work (about 6 km from home), but the local forecast was for rain today. I was tired yesterday, and considered driving, but then heard that many Londoners had to walk home yesterday. When I heard that, I felt that I should walk to work today, even if the weather may not cooperate.
Believe me, a lot of us are thinking and feeling for the people in London right now, and elsewhere who have been affected by yesterday's explosions on the mass transite system of London. We know that you are resilent people, but all people will experience...I had to stop to shed a few tears...will experience the sense of loss that many in London and Great Britian are currently feeling.
I'm glad that you posted, and that you are okay.
John
