Next meeting (for September) will be at Wildwood Park, located by the new fire station on East Ave. The park is on the road to Upper Bidwell Park. This is a potluck type meeting; bring your own meat (for the BBQ), drinks (there are kids that show up), and some food to share. Our meetings are the second tuesday of the month at 7pm.

I don't think alcohol is allowed. It's a kids park and playground area.

Next meeting is next tuesday @ R.T.P. Pillsbury Shopping Center (If different location is decided upon I'll correct this posting before tuesday). To be discussed is upcoming Abalone Dive Trip to Ft. Bragg (I think during Spring Break?). Don't know if I'm going there. If I have gas money to make it to the ocean I'll probably go to Monterey.

As far as I know, no change in location. Even though I probably won't be going Ab diving, I'll post the dates when the club will be in Ft. Bragg.

Hey Bob, Ab diving still legal? I was diving out in Monterey back in '80 and the powers that be were talking about banning it then. I think we had a bag limit of 6. It was a blast. I remember when I was out there the locals were complaining about crappy viz and cold water. The viz was 40-50 ft and the water temp was around 55 most of the time as I recall. All of my previous dives to that point were in Lake Michigan with 10 foot viz and water temps in the mid to high 30's. I thought Monterey was fabulous. Especially the Kelp forests. Have to get back out that way sometime. Cheers!

As far as I know, you can free dive for the abs in CA. No scuba. (Here in Oregon, you CAN use scuba).

Only northern California, as in north of San Francisco I believe. No more legal Monterey abs can be had.

Next dive club meeting will be in the same place, 2nd tuesday in the month of april (I'll have to look up the date), 7pm. Some of the divers are planning to do dives with another group later in the year (check out www.sierradive.com montly dives). Our Ab dive is Apr 26 & 27 and will be covered more in depth at the next meeting. Myself, I'm going on a retreat the first week of July and plan to dive Buck's Lake (4,000 ft elevation). Never been there before. For everyones info: we are not an actual dive club. We are just a bunch of dive buddies that get together for Pizza (one of Andrew's four food groups .... Pizza, Candy, Spegetti, and Ice Cream), talk about dive stuff, and go diving. We are not affiliated with any dive store. We therefore are not liable for anything that occures while diving (dive at your own risk). Just thought I'd mention that. We are just out to have a fun time; so, with that in mind ... Go down; get wet !!! Robert Years ago you could dive for pink abs around San Diego; but, due to a bacteria infection the pink abs were wiped out.

Another thing I've heard of happening that not too many people know about is if you purchase ab shells at the store, make sure they are legal length and keep receipt. I've heard of people getting busted for under sized ab shells (Game Warden had no way of knowing if they took the ab from the ocean and I guess got them on circumstantial (I probably spelled that wrong) evidence.
