I will do the old timers dive at Troy spring the weekend before our vintage dive. I will be with J valve John. We will do hospital hole on sunday. Theres plenty of other spots to hit in florida. The place is 1/2 water. With the high price of fuel, I might not be able to afford to drive the manta van down. Ill take the 63 chevy so will bring a minimal amount of gear along. I will have the compressor though and a pocket full of banjo fittings. Just the important stuff you know.

Maybe I should start a different thread but since I plan to arrive for Tuesday, as of now, I may go Hospital Hole alone. What particulars do I need to know about and how do I get there? I have not been in that area in a long time. Nemrod

Ill be over at TROY for the old timers dive, then Hospital hole sunday. Theres places to dive, and Ill be able to meet others so we can get in an extra day or 2 of divin. Ill camp at Alexander spring likely tuesday and wednesday nights. Its lovely there, cheap, and they have great facilities, a super 2 mile nature walk, and a great spring to dive too. Lets stay close all you "early birds" I think hospital hole is in PASCO county, thats the cheapest gas in florida. We need to go there anyway.

I will do the old timers dive at TROY springs on the 26th, with J valve John, and maybe Deep Dennis! The next day J Valve is going to take me on the scenic tour of Hospital hole. After that I will drift over to alexander spring for a couple days of walking, diving, and eating sand dogs. I will camp at alexander till thursday, when I will camp at BLUE SPRING and then greet divers as they arrive on thursday. I know this is a day early, but those who do arrive there can get in an extra days divin at one of the worlds most lovely springs. everyone whos coming early, log in here and lets know ahead of time what your planning. One more thing, there is a fine little dive shop in orange city where we can get air. Its SCUBA FLORIDA and Cynthia Kumbera. She is only 10 minutes from the spring, so those of you that need air thats the place to go. Ill give you directions when you get there at blue spring. If your eating beans, and sand dogs you wont need any air!

Broxton Chuck, I should arrive at the scene of destruction on Monday, March 28. It might be well into the afternoon. I would then be able to dive Tuesday unless totally exhausted from the drive. I am still of a mind to dive Hospital Hole Wed. or even Tuesday. I kinda hate to go it alone. Is it possible to camp at Alexander Springs--what facilities are there for tent camping? Perhaps those who are getting there early or such should exchange cell numbers so contact is possible and maybe there should be a group leader--Bryan--with the phone numbers as well so everyone can get connected and nobody get lost. I will be at hospital on sunday. What is the "scene of destruction? I will stay there if youll be there monday. Its a haul to go from alexander to hospital hole. Lets get this planned as best we can. Gasoline will be a ripoff especially in florida, so we got to make each drop count. Chuck

Scene of destruction---lol---just a joke----nothing more.
Chuck, I will be driving all the way from Kansas, a few more gallons of fossil fuel burned is not going to stop me from achieving full mission success. I just wanted to dive the Hospital Hole, heard about it for years and it sounds fun. I know you will be doing it on Sunday but I cannot get there that early. I will dive it alone if need be, if you have other plans. You can give me the latest updates on it and all that when I meet you at Alexander. Heck, I may change my mind and just hang with you guys. I am going down to dive with you guys anyways but I might just sneak off for Hospital Hole. I am thinking Wed would be the best time for me but I hope to dive with you on Tuesday where ever you will be diving. I say Wed because if I go alone and I have read it is a long swim to the Hole I will need to be rested as I am sure the long drive will be tiring from Kansas. The thing about getting older is I am a lot wiser than I used to be but my body is a lot weaker!! LOL. Nemrod

With all of the interest in Hospital Hole I wanted to repost some information from an earlier post of mine:
Location: Hospital Hole (aka Fish Hospital) is in a sharp bend of the Weeki Wachee River 1,000 feet upstream from State Hwy 595 bridge.
Description: The hole itself is in the third bend south of Roger's Park on the Weeki Wachee River. The name comes from local legend where it is told that injured fish come to this site to be healed before returning to the sea. Access is restricted from land due to private homes, but one can easily canoe or even walk upriver from the park to the dive site. Roger's Park is open year round with a boat dock and launch ramp, but there is a $2 park fee ( per vehicle) during daylight hours in the summer. The main hole is about 150 ft in diameter and reaches a depth of 135-140 feet. There are several solution tubes in the overhangs along the south and southwest wall. One of the tubes goes to the surface, but the others, while large enough for a diver to enter, are blocked at the top (around 20 ft). Water from the spring flowed through these tubes long ago before the ceiling of the cavern collapsed (now the main sink). There are a few flowing springs coming from the wall around 70 feet, just above the hydrogen sulfide layer. Between 70 and 80 feet there is a thick cloud like layer of hydrogen sulfide that blocks most light below it. Below the layer, whose depth fluctuates with the tide, visibility is usually very good. There is a small john boat on the bottom around 135 feet. There is not much of interest away from the boat until you get to the walls. Graffiti from divers over the past decade written into the walls adds to the fun of the dive. The shape of the sink itself is like a small boot with no passage or major overhangs observed yet. The ceiling gently slopes upward towards the opening. This site is great for any open water diver, although only those who are cavern certified should attempt to go below the cloud layer, even during daylight hours, as the low light, foul smell, and high silt can be challenging to those without depth experience.
Enjoy,
JES
