I have been a member of this vintage site for about one year now. What a great site it is.
I was first certified back in 75. I remember my instructor telling us to forget the vintage double hoses and gear, it is out dated. So most of my diving experience has been with the "modern" gear.
It was not until I started to watch the re-runs of seahunt, voyage to the bottom of the seas, and lets not forget Thunderball, that my interest in the vintage gear peaked.
I thought to my self, I wonder how that feels diving with the double hoses. I was looking on ebay and seen a DA aqua-master up for bid, so I broke down and bought it. Not knowing much about the regulator, I was very hesitant to use it.
It was through this site I had the fortune of meeting and chatting with Allen aka simmonbeans. He offered to do a few pool sessions with me to get me accustomed with the double hoses. What a great experience it was. Allen has been a wonderful teacher, mentor, friend and dive buddy which I am grateful for.
We dove with the double hoses a few times now, and I am hooked on them. Just went and bought a royal, which I have used and must say it works fantastic. I have used my "modern" dive gear a few times now, but it is not the same, and hard to adjust to. I guess, I am spoiled now with the vintage stuff.
Well I don't want to bore you, so I just will say that I am a very happy new vintage diver. Thanks Linda and Dan for hosting this wonderful site. I have made many a new friend here and gained a lot of knowledge through this site.
Thanks again Fred

Hi I am new to the Vintage Scuba Supply Group and wanted to just say Hi. I am happy to be able to come and learn from all the members too. My member Nickname is Scubydoo. I got my Certtification in 1972 attending the Diving Training at the Decatur Georgia YMCA and just dive a little. I hope to dive more often now, so I think your forum is a good place to start getting up to date on Diving Fun. Thank you. Scubydoo

Im glad to read all the positive candor about interest in vintage diving from new and old members. We all have that common bond. My interest started back in 1956 when I was 10 years old. I would sit in class, and inside that BIG geography book I had my DIVEMASTER catalog. Never had anything but a pair of voit fins, and a mask like mike nelsons. I was a big bad pool diver, living in Ohio. Never had any money to get gear, as you got a dollar for cutting a lawn back in 1960! Now that Im near retired, Im living the childhood I wished I really could have had. Get you a BROXTON, or a DA NAVY and dive the good life!!!

Welcome Creaturedude, this is the cyber vintage scuba club. We are so spread out across the land I don't know of any specific vintage dive clubs existing on a local level.
Our host here at VSS, Dan and Linda, and the the other forum, VDH (Bryan), those are your primary suppliers of vintage repair parts and both can fuly rebuild your double hose regulators. I would not trust my double hose to anyone else or especially to any local dive shops--that would be a disaster. In addition to Bryan and Dan, Broxton Chucko occasionally puts some nice stufff up for sale and maybe does a few rebuilds also ---he has the touch on those old Broxtons and Navy units I hear tell. Welcome. Nemrod

There's also the California Classic Equipment Divers in So. California. While our main focus is helmet diving, a lot of the members are double hose fanatics and dive them on a regular basis. My freshly rebuilt DA & Mistral are going in at the next group dive, along with my Desco helmet! Such fun!
