I guess I have Turtleguy to thank for this, but I just picked up my first double hose reg today, and I am really looking forward to diving it. This is all after he did a presentation at our local dive club. Now I got to get all of those old tanks we have puka'd in the corner off to hydro for use in the Hawaiian backpacks we have hanging off the ceiling.
Funny thing is, is that while I do some technical diving, I am really looking forward to 'getting back to the basics'.

Hi, welcome aboard! I don't dive (although I do like snorkeling on occasion)... I'm just the admin here. But if you need any help with pics, avatars, or whatever, just let me know! There's a great bunch of guys here (and a few girls, too!) I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Welcome fishb0y! You've come to the right place for Vintage Equipment Diving and it's great to have you as a part of this community. You'll find the members are friendly, extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. I really feel your pain, it would hard not to become interested in vintage equipment after a presentation by Turtleguy9. Welcome aboard and stay wet! Regards, JES

Greetings all. I am a repair tech at a Hawaiian dive shop, been diving awhile. I am always interested in how dive gear works, and some of the lost technology, why you can adjust the IP on a diaphragm regulator but have to add shims on a piston. Some of the older piston regulators were adjustable, they have just stopped building them that way. One thing led to another and I started aquireing old single hose regulators. A couple of months ago I picked up my first double hose, a DA Aquamaster. Took it apart to clean it and see how it worked. That was followed by a Mistral and now a Healthway. All of them mostly work, I am still looking for some parts. My goal is to find a regulator older than myself, whichis getting harder every year. Enough rambling. Any other vintage regualtor divers in Hawaii?

Tim, Welcome! ;D There are three vintage divers on this board that I know about in Hawaii; Fishb0y, Turtleguy9 & JustLeesa. Turtleguy & JustLeesa actually have a dive business in Oahu. Here's the link so that you can contact them: www.oahuscubadivers.com/index2.htmAgain, welcome aboard and it's great to have you as a part of the community.

Aloha Tim Welcome. I am on Oahu, which island are you on? I will probably get in a vintage dive or so on the 10th at Haliewa Trench, The Scubaboard Online dive club is having a picnic that day. Aloha Turtleguy9 AKA Roger

I am on the Big Island, infortunately most people have not even seen a double hose regulator, so I will be learning how to properly use them on my own. I do get a lot of "what the hell is that?" when I am working on some of my old stuff at work.

After you make sure your 2 hoser is going perfect, just stick it in your mouth, and learn as you go. Its easy. Just like flying, go get a book about it, read it, buy a plane and go fly it. Its easy getting it off, but landing is a killer!

Hi fishb0y,
I think I've saw your posts on vintagedoublehose. I'm also new here. I think I know a lot of people in this forum from vintagedoublehose forum. you might reconize me. I log in as scubadiver_bob there. I've dove Hawaii before with Aloha Dive Shop I think around 1982. Went on a boat dive and saw a lot of sea turtles. Last time there I was supposed to get four days max liberty; but, there was a big hurricane; so, the Coral Sea went out to sea and I spent most of my max liberty on the ship. When we pulled into port the sand was so stirred up from the storm I couldn't dive ... the Navy still owes me four days vacation in Hawaii !!! Have any hawaiian backpacks for sale (they are the kinds with the shoulder supports and metal tank straps?)?
time2dive ... read Navy Dive Manual. It has operational section on double hose regulators that tells how to clear them and buddy breath with them ... also watch Sea Hunt movies. Best thing to do though is get with someone who knows how to dive with double hose regs that can answer any questions you might have.
My kids are getting home (it's 10:30 pm) so got to go now ...

How do I put avatar (picture) in this and edit my profile? I went to my profile but didn't see any edit button or anyplace to add a picture like vintagedoublehose has. Robert First, make sure that you're logged-in. At the top of the screen (in the Vintage Scuba Supply Community Forum title box) is a tool bar. Click on the word "profile". (Or you can click this link: vintagescuba.proboards2.com/index.cgi?action=viewprofile) When your profile screen opens you will see the following line at the top of your profile: Member's Bio - [blue]Modify Profile - Bookmarks[/blue]. Click on "Modify Profile". This will take you to the page where you can add your own avatar. Remember, in order to use your own custom avatar, you must enter the full http:// URL (i.e. where your avatar is hosted) in the Avatar URL box. You can specify your own custom width and height for your avatar. However, avatars must be no more than 100x100 pixels. If all else fails remember that you can contact Linda. Hope that this helps!

I'm a little late getting here and welcoming you, fishbOy, but I'm happy that you've decided to come on board. We get into some very interesting and stimulating conversations here. In the process learning more about our diving history and how we can apply it to today's diving. If we don't do this, then a lot will be lost over time. I'm a bit envious about you being in Hawaii, though. I'm sure that you are enjoying the waters over there.
John
