Good afternoon all
I just found the forum while "Googling" for info on "World Without Sun", and the "Vintage" forum subject area is so near and dear to this old codger's heart that I just had to register and hopefully become a helpful or at least friendly member of the community.
These days I'm a network nerd running my own network support company (VeroTek) here in San Diego, but my heart belongs underwater.
I grew up in a boating family and we were snorkeling early (Dad was Air Force and we were stationed at Eglin in Florida). Senior year of High School(1965) Dad got stationed at Hickam AFB in Hawaii and the base had an active Scuba club and instruction program. I took the NAUI(new) scuba class, using Mistral double hose regs and air force mae wests split in half for an emergency flotation from Leon Albritton
I read every single book that could be found on diving and spent every waking hour underwater at Hanauma Bay or the north shore when it was quiet. Went to S.F. State College and we started the SF State Barracuda Dive Club ... and spent every weekend in Monterey. camped at the Veterans Campground and diving Cannery Row (before tourists). We used to get Al Giddings from the SF Bamboo Reef and (can't remember the guy's name that got the GreatWhite Bite) from the Marin(?) Bamboo Reef to speak to the Club.
Went in the Air Force myself, and home from tech school on my first leave I attended the NAUI Instructor Class(#2088) in San Diego in 1970.
After I got out of the Air Force in 1971, I settled in San Diego and started teaching for Dick Long at Diving Unlimited (La Mesa at the time) and designing Helium Speech Unscramblers for DUI. The years that followed at DUI were some of my best diving memories in the water from Pt Loma to San Clemente Island.
Its quieted down in recent years, but I stay in touch with the old gang of instructors here in SD and love the water.
Now, you know way more than anyone ever wanted

p.s. I'll send you a tiny pic riding around in my zodiac at Catalina
