Greetings Chris. I'm in Yuba City. There is at least one other member in Chico whom I know, and I'm sure he will introduce himself pretty shortly. For a while there I thought I was the only one in the area interested in vintage diving! Nice to have you on the forum. Do you dive vintage, or just collect? Terry

Howdy Chris.
Im in Oakland - about 3-4 hours from you. Where do you do most of your diving? I usually do Monterey. Just went this weekend - Im finishing my Dive Master Cert. I know there is another guy up there in Chico, but I can't remember who off hand. Duckbill is in Yuba City. How'd you find this site? Tell us about yourself. Robb

Welcome cbusch2792! You have definitely come to the right place for Vintage Diving. ;D There are several members of this board who live in California. Duckbill and OystrPir8 have already introduced themselves and Scubadiverbob actually lives in Chico. With 434 registered members, there might even be some others. It's great to have you as a part of this community. I think you'll find that the members and staff are friendly, extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. Welcome aboard and Stay wet! Regards, JES

Hi,
I live in Chico and dive the Feather River a lot. Go to VDH and look at the photo gallery for duckbill. Check out the picture of the salmon he caught with his bare hands. Hey, pretty good ... you got to be an excellent swimmer to catch a forty pound salmon!
He will tell you it's dead ... but ... this is a good fish story!

Hi Terry (duckbill? origin?)... No, I don't dive vintage...however in my poverty-stricken days I was accused many times of using antique gear! I do collect some gear....that was my post regarding the primo "Royal Master" I just scored (should I tell you $30??) at a yard sale....That's how I found this site. My collections consist of wrist depth guages on gear I salvage of the Mendo coast....some places look like a junkyard! No, I don't see where to see mail, what's a PM ...post-mortum?
Hey, scubadiverbob....I've dived the FR fish hatchery during salmon runs....too cool!! Oodles of lures from dying fish....I once found o $10 Reno Harvey gambling token out there...Guess a disheartened loser. Do you Ab dive?
Stayin' wet....Chris

Interesting ... Dale (another local diver) found a $10.00 Fritzgerald Casino silver token there. For your info (if your trying to date the one you have) the goverment made it illegal for the casinos to use copper, silver, and gold to make tokens in 1974. You have a collectors item there. Wonder if it was the same unlucky guy who tossed the one Dale found? All I've found there worth writing about was a china plate dated 1923 and a pair of bikini bottoms! (someone was into freezing their buns off - water temps ave 54 degrees !! ) I also found stuff that has reciently been removed during the river cleanup we did; but, nothing to write home about.

www.orovillemr.com/search/ci_4361408 is news article where we did river clean-up if your interested. We cleaned out the shopping carts, bicycles, and other misc. garbage that was under the bridge. Sometime soon I'm going to put up some pictures I've taken in the river at the Nature Center in Oroville ... you'll have to check them out. I've done some ab diving. Mostly I'm into underwater photography and when in Ft. Bragg I go to Van Damm or Russian Gultch and take pictures. If you've been in Chico Dive Center (receintly closed) and looked at the pictures there, I took about half of them, and the picture advertising dive classes that was on the door was my son Andrew. Also, there were pictures of him in his scuba class when he was ten yrs old. My second snorkel was hanging up by the bathroom. It was sort of rare; had clear silicon rubber mouthpiece double injection molded to the black rubber snorkel. I think it was a scubapro snorkel. Well, got to go. Check out dive club website if you get a chance www.chicodivecenter.com/Default.aspx?alias=www.chicodivecenter.com/norcaldiveclub We have meetings second tuesday of the month, 7pm, at the Round Table Pizza on Mangrove Ave. (close to McD's and Safeway), and if you go to McD's tell them the McJoke, "go light on the grease" and they will know where you heard it from ... me! usually no dives are planned for dec. and jan. so people can be with their families (and after Christmas and new years some of us don't have much money left).

Had a question on abs you might just know the answer. Years ago (don't forget my son thinks I'm only 28) I was diving with a dive club in Alameda (this was when Divers Exchange was still in business (around 1981) and I was on the USS Coral Sea CVA-43) there was a lady in the club that knew how to bbq the abs. She would clean the whole foot (no slicing and pounding) and wrap it in heavy aluminum foil with a lemon/butter sauce, and throw it on the barby for ten munites. It would come out as tender as fish and taste great. She would never tell anyone how she made the sauce; but, I think it had some type of meat tenderizers in it. You or your friend wouldn't happen to know the secret reciepe for the sauce, would you? (lots of work slicing and pounding the feet)
