Hello to all. I joined a couble of weeks ago. I started diving in 1969 at age 16 so I learned on this old stuff. Dan just rebuilt the 1st regulator I bought used for $15.00, a Voit 50 Fathom, with his Grey hoses on it looks new again I am YMCA certified as SLAM (scuba lifesaving and Accident management) same as Rescue Diver in PADI certification. I do most of my diving in the Florida panhandle and springs since it is 5 or 6 hours drive from north Georgia. Also, I've done a lot of diving in the Carribean and Pacific NorthWest, which I love. I enjoy reading all of your posts. Very impressed with the knowledge and skills you guys have.

Double check your figure on the Voit. I think you misplaced the decimal. Welcome to the forum, shackle! Good deal on your Voit. It's great that you got it up and running. Do you plan to dive it?

That $15.00 was in 1970. I last dove it in 1976 in the Keys. From what I hear diving it on a charter is out of the question. I do plan on taking it for a spin in a N. Fla. spring somewhere. Morrison seems to be void of equipment nazis for the time being. I recently acquired a DA and have a banjo, port adaptor and air buddy that might pass muster on a cattle boat. I would be interested in hearing anyones experience in diving vintage on charters, but maybe that's a good topic for the general forum.

I would be interested in hearing anyones experience in diving vintage on charters, but maybe that's a good topic for the general forum. Brevity leads to confusion: My comments: 1) A new part, soon to be available, for a DA that allows the attachment of octo, BC inflator hose and SPG is called the Phoenix. This part, which modifies a DA, has been used on various boat charters with no problems from the dive operator. 2) For information on this new part, go to www.vintagedoublehose.com3) To experience or try this new part, take part in the NEXT vintage dive gathering, Sand Dog IV this March. Or meet at Wazee or Portage Quarry this summer. VSS and VDH are two sites that give the vintage and prospective vintage diver assistance and guidance in this aspect of scuba diving. Better?

Confused...? BETTER? There are more links to VDH on THIS site than any other. No worries there, mate. Being new to this forum, I wasn't sure that the New Guy was familiar with the new part. Just trying to be helpful, nothing else. Allan

shakle, lol, if the double hose don't get them the combination of an Air Buddy and double hose surely will. LOL I like that combination myself though I have not used the Air Buddy but once a few weeks ago other than in a pool but I like it.
Yeah, it depends on the charter, most will require a BC with auto inlfate, an alternate air (Air Buddy?) and a spg. That has been my general experience with some few exceptions.

Shackle,
Simonbeans is correct about the Phoenix conversion, another of our good comrads in the community developed it at his own expense............
However, the last I heard they were slow in coming, so save your money and put your bid in if you want one.........
An alternate is obtaining a banjo from Chuck Broxton and an hookah port adapter from me (this allows a bc hose and octopus hose to be attached).........they are available now and are less expensive............both are advertised on this website by Dan..........
My own personal experience with using my adapter and Chucks banjo down in Cozumel last june was great.........no one challanged me since I was using all the modern accuments...bc and octopus...............in fact...the dive master and boat captain were impressed with my RAM as they had never seen one in person.................pretty cool.............
Welcome aboard.............

Thanks for all the feedback and the hospitable welcome. I am familiar with the Phoenix and am considering it. What would I do with the brass banjo? It won't fit my 50 Fathom or W. Pico Mistral.

One of the advantages of the hookah adapter is that you can use it for a lp sourse. However, most dive ops require an alternate and a BC. With the one hookah port, you need some sort of spilter. I use an AirII on my BC which does double duty. The banjos require another yoke, known as a long yoke. Dan sells some on this site. There may also be a thinner banjo available soon that will work with any yoke.
