I have been leery of diving with my Aquamaster due to the lack of a pressure gauge. Last night I was looking at my twin 50s and noticed that the U.S. Divers manifold on them has 2 burst discs, one for each tank. That got me thinking, what if I took out one of the discs out and put in an adapter that would let me screw in an HP hose and Pressure Gauge, either that or find a way to replace the J Valve on the end of the manifold with a to run the gauge. I figure that if there is still at least one burst disc in the system I should be OK.
So far the only downsides to the idea that I have come up with are that the gauge would always be pressurized and that the fitting screwed into the manifold in place of the burst disc bolt would have to be pretty small which might make it fragile, especially if the hose got yanked sideways, but some sort of strain relief, like zip tying the hose to the manifold bar, might fix that problem.
Anybody have any thoughts about how to make this work (or why I shouldn't do it?

I wouldn't try to put a gauge on the manifold. Learn what pressure the J valve holds in reserve, check the pull rod often to be sure the J valve didn't accidently get pulled down and watch your dive time. J valves worked just fine for many years before gauges came about.

Try using a different manifold on your tanks. The older Dacor valves have a high pressure port available to use. And it is only pressurised when there is a regulator blocking the valve opening, and the valve opened. Some of the Voit valve systems have the HP port also. I find it much more convenient than using a banjo fitting.

I WOULD REFRAIN ON REMOVING THE BURST DISC.IF POSSIBLE FOR YOUR SELF TRY TO FIND A DIFFERENT MANIFOLD. I JUST PICKED UP A NOS WHITE STANG TWIN MANIFOLD FOR 35.00 DOLLARS AND IT WAS STILL IN THE PLASTIC WRAPPER. THIS MANIFOLD ALSO HAS A HIGH PREASSURE PORT ON IT FOR A GAUGE. GOOD LUCK DOC.
