I just found this forum a few days ago. I had no idea that serviceable vintage diving equipment was so popular.
Also, it looks like most of the folks here are pretty squared away making the old gear new again.
I started skin diving in the late 1960's and got certified (LA Co) in March 1977 which qualifies me as vintage, I suppose. Dove a lot in So Cal in high school and college. Spearing fish and picking Ab's and scallops was the primary focus. Pt. Dume, Paradise Cove, LA-Ventura Co Line, Catalina and Santa Cruz Island were the prime dive locations. I'm guessing 200+ jumps over a 6-year period.
Got married, had kids and became a diver on paper. I started free diving and spearfishing in Monterey area several months ago and got the bug back. My retired and tired Father-In-Law had me clean out his old gear from his boat restoration shop in Oakland last week. He did some salvage and bottom cleaning back in the day, then got into some sport diving for a couple years ending in the early 1980's. Over a dozen tanks way out of hydro (only one with DOT), two nice and clean single-hose regulators with two second stages each plus BC fill, two mens large suits (circa 1980's and 1960's), three BC's, scads of gloves and booties, etc.
I'm interested in using the old school simple gear, properly restored and fully functional to get into scuba again. Simple single hose reg, horse collar, plain pack, and my old weight belt with my new suit and mask. Not a total vintage package.
I am not sure what to do about the tanks. They look a bit rough and many have reducer bushings. He had two sets of 38 doubles that would be great for diving off my kayak.
Everything else looks great and was stored well for the past 30-years. I may want to trade a Dacor single hose rig (with built-in reserve) for a more common scuba-pro or US divers rig if anyone is interested.
Thanks for the welcome
