Hello, everyone.
I am new to the forum and interested in developing my two hose regulator/diving and equipment care skills. Looking for a new challenge -
I have not yet purchased a two hose set up yet - reading and learning first but anxious to jump in the pool.
Background:
Name: George Austin - Los Angeles, CA
Yes, Mike Nelson, James Bond and The Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau are my reasons for becoming a scuba diver
L.A. County "Skin Diver" certification, Alhambra CA. 1971 - this was a snorkeling cert.
NAUI certification. Laguna Sea Sports, Laguna Beach, CA 1972. Carter Breusing, Instructor.
NAUI NITROX, ADV. RESCUE and DM - 2000 Laguna Sea Sports, Gordon Boivin, Instructor
I have no idea how many dives I have but I dive mostly southern Calif and a lot from the shore. So. Channel Islands, Baja etc.
Beginning to have the money, time and desire to do solo dive travel. I enjoy that immensely.
Wow. I notice when traveling that the quality if dive instruction leaves a little bit to be desired but I have given up on speaking my mind about it - mostly a waste of time and wind. It's not really my business anyway as these people are spending their money, not mine to have fun. There are many exceptions and that gives me hope.
I suppose my main questions are : Is two hose equipment configuration for diving accepted for traveling to the vaunted "PADI 5 Star Resorts" I suppose I would be diving a BP/Harness, 3mm wetsuit for surface buoyancy, ditchable weights, (belt) and finding a reg that I can install an SPG onto. I also noticed on my last trip (La Paz) that the boat was filling my rental AL80 to 2800psig - that is too high for vintage TH's ?? I really doubt that a dive op is going to let me dive without an SPG - am I incorrect? Not that the last operator would even notice . . . I know I am missing something so please help out. Do I need one of those BP's from VTH that gets the regulator in the best position to my back? etc. etc.
Right now I dive DGX BP/W (Aluminum) OxyCheq Ultra Light Travel Pak / 18# wing- Minimalist Harness rig. AQ Titan, I can't stand a bunch of whistles, lights, sausages, cameras, bells, knives, scissors - (?) etc
Thanks,
George Austin
