Well; making a little more headway. The last couple of days I've been in contact with Jim Shelden and yesterday I order a 21" filter / separator from him. He was all out of the 14" units that he previously had available; but the 21" is the same type of unit with a re-packable filter cartridge and also a drain valve.
I'll run this off of the filter / separator that is already on this Cornelius compressor; so I'll have two drain systems and a much more efficient filtration system. Right now I'm just trying to decide if I want this new tower to stand separately on it's own; or if I want to attach it to the compressor so it's all one unit. I figure it really wouldn't be hard to fashion a support for this new tower to be part of the compressor by drilling holes in some flat bar stock that would be supported by the 5/16" bolts that are the foot supports. The support could be supported by two of the 5/16" bolt foot supports and then be bent to whatever height I desire to support the new tower. I'll have to wait till the new tower arrives and see what I can come up with. Earlier today after finally cleaning up the filter / separator that is part of this compressor I got it all re-assembled and attached back onto the compressor and gave the pressure gauge a test. I started up the compressor with the shutoff valve completely open and then slowly closed it watching the gauge until it was fully closed. At first I ran it up to 500 psi and then shut off the compressor; the gauge held steady without any pressure drops. I did it once again only this time taking it up to 1000 psi, and got the same results. I still want to get another gauge hooked up to this system so I can also compare both gauges at the same time to see how close the pressure reads. Anyway; so far; so good! Tery
