I'm trying to get a kit together for this summer and I have enough regs but I couldn't help myself this time as the deal was too good to be true. The Hydronaut is supposed to be a really good reg once tuned up but I'm not sure I can even change the IP (see pic). So the reg is missing the exhaust tee and from what I hear it should have a black label (note the cool low serial). To paint or not to paint..? It came with this Imperial gauge in the pic but I have a working HW's one to replace that with. I don't see much of a difference between this and my Sport. Is there any? The knife and gauge were from recent eBay auctions as well and were not expensive at all. Now all I need are a tank and wetsuit and fins for a matching kit. (I wear an XL, hint hint) Has anyone else noticed the cheap prices on eBay lately? Someone else mentioned in an earlier thread that they like to check their tanks with gauges from the same manufacturer. At first I thought that was silly... But I already had this in the locker for a while.

The IP is right at 145. I checked with a 700 PSI tank and one that has 2k in it. I don't see an OPV? So I looked inside. This reg doesn't need one, does it? Now if I could only get a bottom that isn't buggered up... Anyone care to attach a page out of Basic SCUBA for me to use in taking this one apart?
Thanks all!
Don

It's a balanced first stage with a downstream second. This should be a very nice breathing reg. I do not own a hydronaut, but I've found with both the Hydro-twin and Hydro-twin II, that they seem to work a little better with a higher IP. I'd leave it at 145 to start with and see how you like it. Obviously, someone in the past had their way with that adjustment screw, I cannot remember what size allen wrench it takes, but it should be easy to clean-up.

When you said an Imperial guage, I thought it would read in BAR, but now I see.... Is it a bit larger than a Seaview? I have a similar guage, but cannot recall the brand now... But it definately larger than the Seaview:

Don, I just noticed something on that gauge: Did'ja notice the turtle! That's a 3/8" hex/Allen-wrench: it doesn't take much torque to turn, but you may want to take that bonnet/cap off before ever trying to turn it, and use some penetrating oil on the threads. Yeah, I know, a lot of people say don't use the stuff, but since there is no plastic or rubber, that's what dish soap is for, it will cut most oils! If you can find a piece of bar stock to fit into the adjuster, you may be able to use a punch and ball-peen hammer to tap the flared out areas back into shape: anyway, that's exactly what I'd do Jaybird

Nikeajax, thanks for the scan. And yes, I did notice the turtle. I have two like that. And the Healthways is bigger than the Seaview. I'll try to get a side by side shot up of the three. Regulator68bj, Thanks for the pics and scan. Now I'm jealous. I wish mine looked as nice. I'm sure there's an o-ring in there that I need to replace but it seems to be working fine now. Maybe I'll grab the tee from my Malibu. Not sure if it'll fit but I could check... Dave, thanks again for the reg and the story about how you found it. I only wish I had a story or two like that. Heck, it took close an hour for me to find anchors in Superior last week for some buoys

Here's another neat little number to add to the HW collection. The oil is pretty clear unlike my other which has taken on an oily or smokey look to it. This one came in with an Aquadiv Deluxe that looks to be in pretty nice shape as well. I may post that later...

Here's a swell depth gauge I just got: It's the Coronado, with the white face: the older one leaks You can't see it in the image, but the strap has a Cressi logo on it: that's the original strap I'll git a picher o' that so's ya kin sees wot I'm sayin'...
