Were these commercially available in '75/'76? If so, does anyone here have one?

Don, I think I remember these being available during the Bi-Centennial year of 1976, but I don't know who the manufacturer was that put them out. It could have been Sportsways.

Well I hope to put my hands on it soon. Its been advertised locally but is in a city 90 some miles away. The gentleman who has it said he bought it new and the only hydro it has is '75, but '76 makes more sense. He also said he filled it himself so he never bothered getting it tested as he had his own compressor, and that it is still full! I hope its not rusty, as I'd love to dive this tank someday.

Here's a hint. Now I hope I didn't just jinx myself.

Well I finally made the trip and picked it up along with a couple others. Imagine my surprise when I found a born on date of 1971..? The other 72 the gentleman had was a 1955 Healthways. Both were last hydro'd in 76 The packs were mounted on the tanks that way, I swear. And because I bought two tanks and regs the nice fellow threw the following tank in. Unfortunately it was not pressurized so I can only pray it'll pass hydro. Wait tilyou see the regs I got too

Here's a photo of me with that USD harness. Oops, I cannot find it right now. But the plastic straps were not my favorite as they tended to fall off my shoulders during the dive.

That's it! How did you find it?
Anyway, that was about the last time I dove that harness because on a wet suit it really slipped off the shoulders. It was okay on this suit, as the one I was wearing was a skin-both-sides suit. When I went to a nylon-out suit, the nylon on the suit and the plastic on the shoulder strap created a real slick surface, and it would not stay on my shoulder.

That's it! How did you find it? Hey John, I remember this photo you posted in reply to another thread and it didn't take long to find. I've been wondering which pacs work best and now I have a few to choose from.Anyway, that was about the last time I dove that harness because on a wet suit it really slipped off the shoulders. It was okay on this suit, as the one I was wearing was a skin-both-sides suit. When I went to a nylon-out suit, the nylon on the suit and the plastic on the shoulder strap created a real slick surface, and it would not stay on my shoulder. JohnThis harness has nylon webbing instead of the plastic type. How did you like it otherwise?
Thanks John, Don

Don,
With nylon strapping, it should be an excellent harness. That cyclolac plastic as really rough, and will withstand time very well. It is also impervious to salt water. I didn't look closely enough to see that it was nylon strapping, as the original was plastic. I'm looking at the 1973 catalog, and it also appears to have this with a nylon shoulder strap; maybe U.S. Divers Company heard our complaints all those years ago. That's the second time this week I've been wrong, dagnabit!

Not wrong on this one John. You were just describing your experience with the equipment you had similar to what I now have. I just sent you an email regarding a previous conversation we had.

Don, if you look at the, um, "art work" with very strong magnifying glass you may be able to determine if this is a custom-job, or a commercial... Do any of the colors appear as very fine dots, or, are the colors quite solid? Also, are there any raised edges, say, like on the white? Fine dots would be screened on, a commercial process, whereas obvious raised edges would be masked and the sprayed, custom... I hope this makes sense to you?

Good idea Jaybird. I suspect custom due to its original and last hydro. I'll get back to you on what I find. Now I need a mask and shield Don
