I switched away from the "standard" hose length years ago, when I bought longer hoses for my Aquamaster, and later bought SCBA hoses for my USD Overpressure Breathing single stage regulator (predecessor to the USD Mistral). I now use Super-Flex hoses and a Hope-Page mouthpiece on my Mossback Mark 3 regulator. I still have some with standard length hoses, and find them okay underwater, but on the surface they are a bit short. Here are some photos with me using my twin 45s (Sherwood, 1800 psig steel) with the USD Overpressure Breathing regulator and long hoses at High Rocks on the Clackamas River several year ago. John source? rhwestfall, Dan used to carry these Super-flex hoses here, at VSS. But we bought his supply, and he hasn't restocked it. So now there are two options. You can go to a safety supply store, which stocks some of the SCBA units, and buy hoses there, or you can get them from Portage Quarry Recreation Club, Inc. I recently noticed that they are carrying these hoses now. These are the only sources in the USA that I know of. The ad at Portage Quarry's website states that they are about 19 inches long, but they will stretch to about three feet, easily. Here are some photos of me using these hoses. You can see these lenses in both the "up" or not-in-use position, and in the "down," or being used, position. Here is a photo of Sid using his video/still setup (see the link above for details).
