Hello everyone! As many of you know, the Legends of Diving Event at Portage Quarry will be going on in about two weeks (08-09-2014). There are a lot of guys coming in from out of town for the event and some are coming in a week early and plan to do some diving beforehand!!! We are tentatively planning a dive at White Star Quarry in Gibsonburg, Ohio for Sunday, August 3rd at/around 8:00 AM. The cost is $20.00 to dive, non-divers get in free, and dogs are welcome (but please keep them on a leash). Campsites are available across the street from the park if you want to come early and camp the night before or stay til Monday. The viz below 30' is a little sketchy but above 30' is really good for this time of year.....bottom temps (45') are in the mid 60's and the surface is around 80 degrees (as of my last dive there). Anyone interested in diving, please give me a shout at mindhunter42 at gmail.com! Mike England

Sea Hunt Jerry is Coming! - He's heading down there a week early to spend the week diving White Star and other quarries before the actual Legends event on Saturday. Unfortunately I can't make down there myself but I spoke with Jerry two days ago and he is definitely coming.

The diving at Gilboa was good today. The forecast for tomorrow is 80's and sunny. You can't go wrong with that, even with this crew

Some of us got to see Sea Hunt Jerry. He had to leave early. Hope he is feeling better! It was good to see and visit with Alec and Diana Peirce, Robert and Edna Croft, Jeff and Monica and a vintage cast of 20. Good times and great stories shared by all.

Where I dive, the water is usually 54 - 58 degrees and I wear a 3 mill shorty. If I dove there in anything but swimming trunks, I'd probably have a heat stroke, for sure! (hyperthermia, I think it's called). You all saw the photo I posted of me in Lake Tahoe in swimming trunks ... the water was 69 degrees in the surface and about 54 at 40 feet. I went below 40 feet just to cool down!
Well, CA is sorta too far away; but, wish I could go.
Hope everyone has a safe and fun time diving!
Robert

Hard to believe that this years Legends event is already in our dive logs; but in spite of the poor vis I believe a great time was had by all! It was really good to visit and dive with some good friends, and to get the opportunity to meet and dive with some now new friends. By the way Diverdon it was nice to meet you and your wife, and hopefully I'll get up your way to do some diving in the U.P.; eh! Terry

Likewise Terry, Even though the viz was less than ideal the company more than made up for that. Next year I hope to take more time off to go earlier. Jerry sure seemed to enjoy himself for the week. We're very near Chrystal falls so we need to make a plan and just go. Fall is close but the weather will remain favorable for a while yet. Good luck tracing down that compressor leak!

Well, I didn't bring any gear to sell but next year I just might. I did do some purchasing though. I got the valve from Alec, The harness and bands (I'm wearing in my new avatar) along with a new mask as well. The harness worked slick. I didn't get to do a side by side with a plate or pack but I will as I would prefer the minimal amount of stuff in my dive locker. I just wish it would be easier to switch tanks. Well Allan, you may get another sale outta me Too bad the viz was shot and the new owner is ruining the quarry. But an event like this should survive a venue change if it comes to that. I know a lot of divers are loyal to the folks at Portage and I feel bad that they were unable to secure the quarry, but I sure hope the event continues as an annual one. I sure enjoyed it. BTW, I tagged you in a couple pics Mike. As Charlie says, good dives! Don

I have got to go to this next year, seeing as I'm only a half hour or so away. Unless a miracle happens and I end up living in San Diego, Ca. next year (only in my dreams LOL!!)...I'll be there! Mark
