Jaybird,
We have the same problem "spondylolisthesis" .... Mine L5-S1 are out of whack. Keeps me out of the water at times. I also have arthritis L2, L3, and L4. I just can't give up diving! As long as I make it to the water, I'm cool!

Robert, I'm still trying to figure it all out: I love everything about diving!

Today I dove in the Clackamas River at High Rocks, again (I think I'm about three dives behind in my postings). This was an experiment in regulator positioning. I dove independent doubles, and on the right tank I had my Mistral double hose regulator, while on the left tank I had my Aqualung SAE3 single hose regulator, LP hose, and dive computer (it'll be a funny dive from air consumption, as for the first 25 minutes I will show using no air at all). But the Mistral was high and on my right side, with superflex hoses so I had no problem with the asymmetric placement. What was interesting was that I did not experience unusually bad performance, although in certain positions the cracking force was noticeably higher. But when I dipped my right shoulder, it was very easy breathing. Also head down was pretty easy breathing. So the Cousteau position from the op-ed was not really much of a hindrance.

Joho They positioned the regulators like that on those deep dives because they wanted easy breathing on the way down. They didn't really expect to be coming back up.

- Besides the regulator position, the Britannic video also shows the divers bare handed and Cousteau with only a knit stocking cap and not a wet suit hood... While diving 380 feet deep. I would think it must have been awfully cold at that depth but if it was, how could they get along so lightly dressed?

Ya don't notice the cold so much........or JC had a rubber lining in that red toppie.....

Like, that's a tuque, eh! Yeah, I couldn't figure out why he was wearing a tuque at depth, perhaps t'was vanity: so you knew it was him on yer tiny TV screen...
