The first photo is of Terry (a.k.a. duckbill), the second is crawdads feeding on a thirty (or so) pound King Salmon, and the third photo if of a kayaker in the river. I have more photos; but, they are too large to post. Will have to do the photo bucket thing, and then post them. Get to that, probably tomorrow. Had tanks filled, and since it's like in the hundreds (at least how it feels outside!), I have to bring them inside. Robert Attachments:

Man those crawdads are BIG! Too bad the new Game Warden changed the regulations on taking them! We could be having a nice lobster dinner right now .

Robert I am rather fond of my avatar (they're 50s), but maybe it's time for a change? Besides, you caught me with my mask on my forehead- GASP! Can't have that, now can we? What would the kiddies think?

They would think you wearing a double hose, or your related to ... Mike Nelson! He must've always been in distress on the surface, right?

Next time I need to get some photos of you on your camera, Robert. I know one downside of being the family photographer is that I'm in hardly any of the photos. One would think I don't do anything with my family!
Just want to get the word out that there are a ton of salmon at the dam now. The current was a little higher than usual, but divable. Should be a great time for those that will be there on the sixth.

I found out what was wrong with my bc .... basically, it's non-vintage! The cumberbun cam off on one side in the back by the tank. I was very uncomfortable, to say the least, throughout most of the dive. If we could enter on the hatchery side, I'd try using the CVS John loaned me; but, you know the problems that can happen where we enter with my back. The rocks are easy to slip on with booties.
Well, now that that problem is fixed, the bc will probably be ok next time. With what happened, my back has been acting up; but, I'm hoping it'll be ok. If not, I'll have to just snorkel ....
As for the current, last year DWR had stopped draining the lake by September. There really is a drought, and movie stars, the rich and famous, and probably gov. brown - D, all have full swimming pools, I'm sure! Have you saw current water levels at Lake Oroville? It looks like a river! Pretty soon, if they keep sending all the water to So. Cal., they won't have water to generated electricity! (ok, I might be over exaggerating a little). Google it, it does look like a river ....
Still trying to find what is wrong with Andrews "dry" snorkel ... It's in the top of it. Don't know if it can be taken apart and fixed ... I have a couple others around here somewhere; but, they aren't dry.
Got to take my picture with my mask and hood on, and my regulator mouth piece in my mouth; so, I look young. Without the hood, I'd have to shave my head!

Still trying to find what is wrong with Andrews "dry" snorkel ... It's in the top of it. Don't know if it can be taken apart and fixed ... I have a couple others around here somewhere; but, they aren't dry. Just about every snorkel made today is a "dry" snorkel. There are many things in the world around me that I just cannot understand, and that is one of them. Is it really that hard for people to blow water out of a snorkel? I guess if you're in heavy seas with choppy swells breaking over you, but then you wouldn't be snorkeling or diving there, right? I guess it's just marketing. Kind of like toothbrushes. Every manufacturer has its own funky bristle pattern with waves, criss-crosses, dips and rolls , ridiculous, the plain, flat faced toothbrush is the best, and hard to find any more. Is this a rant?

www.onlinescuba.com/Aqua-Lung-Impulse-2-2-Valve-Non-Flex-Snorkel-P17203.aspxAndrew has the flexable version of this snorkel. Some may say it's non-vintage (even some that use newer equipment); but, it's at least ten years old (purchased from Chico Dive Center when I repaired regulators there). Only problem is, the top valve is missing (remember he said water was coming into his snorkel?). Well, from what I can see, these are not repairable! I can't take the top off. Made a phone call and found out they were plastic welded together. Guess I have to get him a new one. Gone are the days of the original, large bore, ScubaPro Shotgun Snorkel (the best ever made). I guess people just want to "re-invent the wheel"; even though, the vintage stuff works so much better! Went to the local ScubaPro Dealer, and was told the shotgun was taken off the market a couple of years ago ... Robert

I don't like buying stuff that will breakdown when needed most, is unreliable, and can't be repaired. Leave that for newbe's on scaryboard! They like new stuff and think the old stuff isn't safe (yeh, right!) Robert

Volvo should make snorkels. Bet they wouldn't have any unnecessary features- just back to simple, basic old school design that works, is safe, and built hell for stout.

Duckbill, I understand you about the snorkels. I'm very picky about snorkels, and have used the Scubapro Shotgun and Son-of-a-Gun snorkels. As Robert said, they were probably the best made. The so-called water-free snorkels are gimmicks, usually (exception--U.S. Divers Company's Impulse and the Scubapro Shotgun). My requirement is that they not add resistance to the breathing with the gadgetry to try to keep water out, and that they be easy to clear. I used the Scubapro Shotgun on an 18 mile swim in the 1980s in some rather demanding conditions with chop, and it performed beautifully. Here is a diagram on how the Shotgun snorkel works: John
