Dear all I am an old free diver with many competitions won between 1970-75. Now I am a old spearguns collector and repairman and I have also many spare parts of vintage spearguns.
I was unable to insert a 150 k image

Ahoy matey, welcome aboard! I know Linda, who's site this is, is a snorkeler, as is our friend David in Britain I know David gets frustrated because he wants to talk about something other than SCUBA... Here I am in all vintage snorkel gear, EVEN my swim trunks: I was only posing for the image, as I wasn't dressed properly for swimming in the cold waters of California! Jaybird

Hello and welcome! Sorry about the image. Our allowed space for images is full. You have to link to the image from a site like Photobucket, rather than attaching it. Again, sorry about that, but welcome aboard!

Gizzo, A lot of us got started spearfishing and snorkeling. I have a lot of stories to tell, as do you, I hope. We'll make some room for free diving/spearfishing stories, such as the story behind this photo I took in 1970 while stationed with the U.S. Air Force in Bermuda. Welcome, and enjoy the stories, the information and the dialog about vintage diving. John

A belated welcome aboard, Gizzo, although we've already exchanged messages on a different thread! Great to have another vintage freediving/snorkelling enthusiast to talk to. Incidentally, Massimo Scarpati's signature was embossed on the long blades of the iconic Concorde all-rubber freediving fins produced by Mares until the early 1980s. Istanbul manufacturer Adalilar Kauçuk then proceeded to make them, still with the Scarpati signature, using the original Italian moulds. They're still marketed in Turkey. David

Hi David, the Concorde were my first long fins when I made the Italian spearfishing championship in 1973. Massimo won that championship and I arrived 6th. In the next days I will show you some very old pair of fins. Unfortunately I am very busy during the week and I can do something only in the week end.
