I am not sure you could..... The 1st stages are different sizes....? Is that right? The balanced valve on the HT II is a bit longer and has the extra spring.
Also, you would have to find a new second stage also since this has a tilt valve.
I suppose it's all a matter of perosnal preference, but I would leave it as is. Some new hoses and a mouthpiece and you're set.
Are you bidding on it?

That one looks a lot like mine. I agree with Dave, dive it the way it is. Actually, add hoses first I doubt you'll find original ones but the newer ones being made would probably work better anyway. And you don't need to worry about finding special valves with a HP port or Banjo's or LP adapters for a DAM or RAM. D

Dave, I may be wrong, but I always assumed that the only difference was the valve seat and plunger: couldn't one hypothetically gut a Hydronaut, or another balanced reg., of those pieces to do what Robert is asking about? Again, I might be wrong, but it's kinda fun to think about, eh?

DD, have you had your Hydronaut apart? I seem to recall that it was the same as the Navy-Unit with different valve seat and plunger...

Hey JB, I have. But I don't have a Navy unit. Sounds like I should have taken photos Next time I have it apart I will. I do need to fabricate a seal for the body out of some silicone that I got from Seahunt Jerry in MN. Just another project on top of the heap... I have had this reg in the quarry earlier this spring but it was just to check it out. It was on a pony and I was switching between my DA and the Hydro. One was on my back and the other in front of me so I wasn't really trying to compare breathing characteristics, but to verify its operation before I bought it. Thats when we discovered a small leak from the original seal. I hoped to have it dive ready this year but too many other things were getting in my way of working this one over. When I do get a chance, probably this wither, I'll start a new thread and take some nice pics. Back to the OP, are you bidding on this one? I'm curious to see what this one ends up at... DD

The back of the regs look very different, but I cannot recall what the parts look like. Here's the un-balanced 1st stage from a Hydro Twin, which I believe is the same as a Dual Air 1st stage: The Hydro Twin II has the shorter, stout looking diaphragm and spring cap where the IP is adjusted. I don't think the threads are the same size, but if they are, then you could use a donor reg. If you could get a balanced first stage into the reg body, then you would still need to swap the tilt valve second stage of the Dual Air. I can only guess the threads are the same from the three different regs, but getting donor parts could be expensive. Does anyone have both a dual air and a Hydro Twin II? Having a side by side comparison would be really helpful for Bob before he goes and spends a ton of money on parts.

Okay guys, the Duel Air cannot be converted, as the second stage is completely different; the second stage is an upstream tilt valve. Note the overpressure relief valve in the LP port. It must be there, or the unit is not safe. Buy it and use it as is, as it represents Sportsway's first attempt at a double hose regulator, after pioneering the single hose regulators.
