Hello! I'm just curious if any of you would happen to have a 80 cubic foot tank harness or back plate. If you do have one, where could I get one? Could I make one?
Thanks,
TD

What exactly are you looking for? Allen makes a "travel" harness that is an old school harness design that incorporates cam bands instead of steel bands so you can use it with any tank. Some of the later US Diver Kam-EZ backpack have slots for 72s and 80s (one of my preferred BPs for DH diving)and I have used standoffs to lengthen the bands on 72 only backpacks to use them with al 80s. Plenty of options depending on what you are wanting to do or achieve.

technidiver, If it is the old-style harness you are looking for, I would highly recommend that you go for smaller doubles rather than a single AL 80. This harness is a bit uncomfortable with a single tank without a wet suit with a spine pad (they don't do that anymore). Doubles, however, sit on the muscular parts of the back, and are much more comfortable. It may take a while to get smaller tanks (twin 45s, 52s, or AL 50s), but it will be worth the wait in comfort and positioning of the double hose regulator on the back between the shoulder blades. Here are my twin 52s: Here are my twin 45s (steel) with that harness (modified to use a European-style buckle. On the website you showed, please note that the photo of the "Sea Hunt Model" shows the woman wearing the harness incorrectly. The harness bands should be fairly close (about a foot) together, so that a weight belt can be used over the harness, not captured under the harness as is in the photo. This requires the top band to be high on the tank, and the second band above the waist. John

Unlike the blow molded backpacks, the thin solid plastic positions the regulator as close as possible to the surface of your back and actually angles the top of the tank that way. Here's a photo of my son diving with an aluminum 50 and the Kam-EZ. We use this back pack with a crotch strap which I actually pop-riveted onto the bottom of it. - Here's the later model Kam-EZ that I think Herman was referring to..

Yep, that's one of the models, there is also one with a quick release. The upper photo one can be adapted to 80s with simple adapters. I prefer the quick release on the upper one to the later one.

My friend Jim refers to this style as a "kidney crusher", this is vintage jargon from back in the day: I was in his shop one day and he just kinda threw the term off without even thinking about it: it took me a little while to figure out what he was talking about--"Yeah, okay, got it!" TD, this image really shows the old style harness--sorry, I know it's too early for Xmass... JB

Can you still buy double 50s or rent them? I don't think my LDS carries them. If not, I'll just have to buy some!
