Phil, I know you have at least one of these: The original Scuba had an all rubber-diaphragm: I believe this was used on the first models. As Phil can attest, these have a thicker outer flange which I have reason to believe was used with the type of ring that mark has on his, and not like the Deluxe and Goldie... JB

Took it down again today, it performed flawless. Sound like a broken record now. Mark

OK Mr. Ratliff, yer at bat now... So two weeks ago John asked me if I wanted a Scuba: yes but I'm leaving for Ireland tomorrow, so I told him to ship next month... He told me that they do have the original clamps, and that they are different than the automotive type. I'm going to make a snorkel-jet for it too, but I won't mod the can this time: I'm redesigning the SJ itself. Phil, I'm gunna need one of yer ghosties soon And as if I needed yet another hobby: I've started collecting old computers now I found an old Sharp note-book from 1996 that runs Windows-95. Hmmmm, perhaps a Commodore-64 one day

Mine look similar, and state:
"IDEAL CORP ALL STAINLESS HYGEAR"
So I think they are the same as pictured above. The Healthways clamps have a characteristic triangular head, with a straight screwdriver (not Phillips head). They also have an area near the screw which is not threaded, unlike the ones you can get from a hardware stare.

Thanks John. So it looks like the one marked “Ideal” is original, and the one that’s marked “Aero Seal” is not. These are the only two worm-gear type clamps on the reg, as there are no clamps where the Hope Page mates to the hoses. Does yours also have the Ideal hose clamps at the mouthpiece?

These are the only two worm-gear type clamps on the reg, as there are no clamps where the Hope Page mates to the hoses. Does yours also have the Ideal hose clamps at the mouthpiece? Yes, both clamps on the Hope-Page mouthpiece are Ideal Corp. clamps; actually, all four are Ideal Corp. clamps. I haven't looked at Jaybird's yet, but will later (it's a bit dirty, and I may not be able to see the writing, but the clamp type is very easy to ID). My Healthways Scuba that I just acquired is serial number 21112. I just did look at Jaybird's Healthways Scuba, and his is older than mine, with a serial number 18588. It's clamps appear to be slightly different, but are ariginal (as were the hoses, which are in very bad shape; I just cut the hoses off the mouthpiece and regulator body, not disturbing the clamps at all). The clamps were difficult to see for the name, but I got it off one, and it read, "MURRAY CORP" and "COLD SEAL" on the clamp. So it is possible that both of yours are original, as Healthways used at least two different manufacturers (or Murray Corp. became Ideal Corp.). John

I don't have any photos yet, but have had my "new" Healthways Scuba apart and it is cleaned up now. The valve, even before I disassembled it, was holding pressure just fine. The outside was really dirty, but the inside was very clean. It has a different duckbill than the other Scuba regulators I've had (first generation). This one is more formed, and is made of neoprene. It has a big hole in the side of it, and so right now is unusable. But it will be back together soon. I'm going to keep the original configuration, and not upgrade it yet to Jaybird's modification.

Okay, here's the photos of my current Healthways Scuba regulator, which is cleaned but in pieces. Note the exhaust duckbill in the center just above middle, next to the exhaust diaphragm. Here is the rather weird, neoprene exhaust duckbill from my Healthways Scuba regulator, top view. I have done nothing to restore it at present--still deciding what to do. Here is a side view of the same exhaust duckbill, made of neoprene. Note that the edges of the duckbill, where the air is supposed to come out, have stuck together. I will need to take a sharp knife to separate the edges if I can restore it at all. Here is the hose clamp for this regulator. John

John, I can't help but think this was their improved DB! I'll have to use your images for my Healthways DH thread.
About the hose-clamps: I'd be willing to bet that they used different sources for them. This last one I got from you uses clamps from Murray Corp.

Jaybird,
I didn't know that they even had an "improved" duckbill. But looking at it, and comparing it to the older version, there is an increased opening size with this one. I am going to try putting tape behind the hole, and filling it in with ShoeGoo, then possibly using neoprene cement to coat the rest of the duckbill. I would like to make this one usable.

Could that be a Dacor DB cut down to fit?

Phil, no, I don't think so: it's got that two-tone that only HW's have as well as the flared end to accept the retainer clip. JB
