The flare could have been caused by years in the horn with a circlip holding it in. The two tone? Dunno.

Phil,
No, the circlip was aT the top of this duckbill. I think I will place some masking tape behind the hole, and try ShoeGoo to repair it. So far I have left this duckbill off the regulator, which is completely back together (sans duckbill).
I took that regulator, placed the plastic plug into the regulator, and conducted a few tests of the exhaust system sans the duckbill. The regulator was placed in about six inches of water, and I exhaled through the mouthpiece with it in different positions. What I found is very similar to the results of my open water experiments in recent years. The exhalation was very easy when regulator was vertical rightside up, or horizontal. I then turned it upside down, saw some bubbles which should indicate water entering the exhaust hose, but that was minimal, and did not result on much higher exhalation resistance. So now, it needs to get into open water.

The reason I don't like collecting Aqualung stuff is you don't get to futz around with it the same way John, Phil and I do with HW-gear! It allows me to think long and hard about an issue, maybe for months at a time, and the payoff is sometimes I get an epiphany, "That's it, that's what we need to do!"
Using a Voit MR-12 diaphragm was to recreate the Scuba's exhaust diaphragm was just one of those moments for me, but this time it took several years to realize...

JB Yep, some day in the very distant future, at your funeral service, you'll rise up in your casket, scaring the crap outta everyone, yelling....."wait a minute, I figured it out.....that's what we need to do?" heh heh heh.

SNORT! Michael, the image that came to mind was Tor Johnson in one of my fave movies: The infamous "Plan-9 from Outer Space" AKA "Grave Robbers from Outer Space" JB

Dang this post of mine has gone off the rails!!! ha ha1
Anyway, just spent 45 minutes underwater with my SCUBA and it performed just fine, not a hitch. Sound like a broken record...dove my SCUBA again and it worked just great!, etc. Opened it up and it was dry inside, not a drop of water leaked past the two layer rubber glove exhaust diaphragm. I'm sure I'll post again in the future that I dove my SCUBA and it worked flawless. Mark

Keep 'em coming! It's great that the thing is staying dry inside. Did you use a sealant or just the two layers and the clamp? I got some Harbor Freight 9 mil nitrile gloves I'm going to try as a membrane. Prolly will double up too. Might try a finger duckbill too.

004 by holat88, Im using a super tough Non Latex material that is used for rotator cuff rehab, among other things. 003 by holat88, 002 by holat88, Some of the original diaphragms were useable but most are'nt worth the risk. I've pulled, stretched and reasonably tried to poke holes in this stuff and its pretty tough. Disclaimer: I dont know WTF Im doing, so if it werks, I'll pass it on.

FYI, Im operating off of an 11 year old H&P laptop when I post stuff so if you see weird things happening (like multiple edits) it's largely due to the slow or no functionality of windows 7 thru this machine, or the operator :-) total lack of computer savy,..or both

Wow, Howard! You have 1 more Scuba than me..... That rubber sheet looks like it might be the answer. I tried the nitrile glove doubled up, which seems ok, but the stuff tears easily. I used a longer (too long) 4-40 screw in the clamp which gets the clamp over the flange w/o cutting a hole in the rubber. It's so long it hits the can, so I will get a shorter one. My daughter is an OT, so I can probably get yards of the stuff. You should try the snorkel jet mod. It really works! Here's one installed in my experimental Scuba. The can has RTV smeared all over it because it was badly corroded and there's little chrome left. Not a great solution. Doing nothing or painting is probably better. We needn't rehash off-gassing:

Howard, with so many Scubas, you really need to make a Snorkeljet for one: you'll be pleasantly surprised at how much better they work with this mod.

Thank you sir! What material do you suggest for making the Snorklejet?
