You can use plastic sheeting like Phil used, sheet brass, or, what I use, sheet stainless. I just bought some .018 today at the hardware store that's going out of business This really saddens me!!!! Orchard Supply Hardware, OSH, started in San Jose in the late 1930's, store No. 2 was what my family shopped at when I was growing up SIIIIGH!Anyway, I like the stainless because it won't flex when the air hits it, and also, it won't be attacked by verdigris, but it's a bit hard to work with, but looks super nice! The easiest method to install the SJ is to just take a file to the can and file out the flat area where the valve body fits in one way, this will let you turn and reposition it to an optimal position. You can also make a cardboard mock-up to figure out where to put the bend in it where it meets at the levers, I'm going to do this for my latest Scuba. OR... you can just twist the valve body in the can like someone did a long time ago JB

Thank you sir! What material do you suggest for making the Snorklejet? I used a thin plastic sheet cutting board from Target for mine. It works well and is pretty robust.

I have wondered about rotating the valve body but was'nt sure how that would affect the airstream. With the SJ I suppose that all becomes a non issue. I'll decide on which way to go and then get started with the build. I too did lots of business with OSH in my 23 years in the central valley. The Hanford store was always the best stocked for all my needs.

Howard, when HW came out with their Deluxe, they turned the valve body to deliver more air. The Goldie, the third generation Scuba, had the venturi-tube. When I had my Goldie and Deluxe in the water the SJ made it so I really couldn't tell much difference between the two! JB

Dove my SCUBA last time I went diving a couple weeks back. It performed just fine, like it has always...blah blah blah. Now my US Divers "Navy Approved"...yeah, it worked...technically. But not going to be a regular Diver, like the boring, predictable, dependable Healthways SCUBA... Mark

Here's a refresher pic on the plastic SJ. All that mess is RTV I smeared all over a Scuba can with lots of chrome loss: This is exactly like the one that's in my Misuba rev2 that I dove today in Monterey. See my post!

New to the world of vintage, I'd like to add to the Healthways SCUBA regs in the world, just picked up one at a local antique (junk) store although it cost me a bit more than 10$. I got all the parts I need I think except for the exhaust port diaphragm . So far heard mention of "Voit MR-12 diaphragm", rubber and nitrate gloves, and some medical material that I can't see the image for. I was thinking about using drysuit silicone wrist seal material. The there's the question of using a sealant (aquaseal I suppose) or relying on just the clamps? Might be an issue with silicone wrist seals. Any further thoughts on fixing up the exhaust port would be welcome while I research the question on other threads. No duckbill on my model. SN 11189.

Ahoy matey, welcome aboard! Does the material you mention have any sort of fiber-reinforcing in it?

You have to be careful of cutting/tearing the material when installing the clamp. A longer 4-40 screw (stainless, of course!) will help with this.
