I took quite an interest in the history of scuba after my OW class. I've done quite a bit of research on my own but I'm having trouble finding advice (or contact) with my local dive community. I also happened to acquire a new, post 2000 manufacture date horsecollar bc that I would really love to learn how to use properly if possible.

Ahoy matey, welcome aboard! First things first: ask any and all questions you have! We're ALL here to learn-- I don't care who the person is Secondly: there's a lot of disinformation spread on purpose about vintage or vintage style gear; it helps to sell new gear... Something that misinformed people don't usually know about HC's is that they are the preferred method of buoyancy for police and military. Probably the biggest reason is that once inflated a diver doesn't have to be conscious to be using it safely: your head goes back and face goes up, makes for much easier breathing There's a lot of neat old gear out there, some of it's "fire and forget"; I say this because parts are so readily available for them you just order the parts and pop 'em in. Some require a long hunt scouring nooks and crannies to get those parts, which is what I prefer. Again, welcome! Jaybird

Welcome aboard!!! I've been a Diver for about Three years now and I took an interest in Vintage Scuba Gear even before I started diving. I joined this forum right after I started my OW Class and this place has been a God-Send!!! Great lot here, better than most other dive forums ("modern" and vintage) I have been to. There is a small crowd here, but the ones that are here have forgot more than I'll ever learn and some of us tend to take an interest in the lesser known SCUBA gear makers! Mark
