I just heard from Jeff, and he is aware that this hose is too light. He made it for Netflix to match their mask (the strap you see). He will match the color to the blue Scuba hoses he has by taking a clamp loose and matching to what is under the clamp. He's concerned about getting two hoses to match exactly in color because he has only one mold. He's thinking his price will be somewhere around the prices on thescubamuseum, but will be a bit more for custom colors. Phil

White would be cool too, but I want one to match my favorite pack Seriously though, I'd like a blue set too! DD

Here's Jeff's first blue hose. Please comment on how the color compares to the Scuba blue! I'm gonna get me a pair! That looks like a fin strap, for a vintage turquoise Scubapro Jetfin. Very cool color for the hoses, and the strap. What are they using double hose regulators for, on the Netflix series?

I don't know exactly what the hose was for, except for being part of a steam punk sort of diving apparatus worn by Count Olaf in one of the episodes.

Keep us informed on how this is progressing. I can see the future with me placing an order for a blue hose set. Mark

So, to pull this old thread back to the subject, I tried out my Scubas with different membrane materials for the exhaust diaphragm, one cut from a bike tube and the other with material from a swim cap. I thought it was silicone, but it might be vinyl. Kind of smells like it. And both had my homemade duckbills installed with RTV.
So, it was a pool test, at a not very deep 8-ish feet max. They performed well, although one was a bit harder breathing (in not out) than the other. This probably is an adjustment issue, or possibly the different hose loops. One has a hope Page with EPDM hoses, and the other sports a USD Kleer EZ. The one with the USD loop was the better performer, but I'm not sure that's here nor there. The harder breathing one also did some vibrating, so there's definitely an issue.
I want to re-adjust both a bit more aggressively. I was worried about freeflow, but none of the 7 regulators I tested today had the problem. I tried out 2 Mistrals, 2 Scubas, a Scuba Deluxe, a Gold Label, and a DivAir. I will probably fuss with the adjustment on all of them
I was pretty impressed with the exhaust effort on the Scubas. I expected a bit of back pressure feel from the narrow duckbills, but I felt the Scubas compared pretty favorably to the Deluxe and the Goldie on the exhaust side. The one also compared well on intake.
The Scubas are working right on the exhaust side so far. I'll try them out in deeper water soon. I really want to put them through some paces to see if the homemade diaphragms are sealing the exhaust horn properly. If they weren't, the regs would freeflow, according to John. So, they must be working!

OK, here's the ultimate Scuba exhaust mod! I call it the Misuba rev1. It is an experiment that doesn't need to be done. Hence, Vance is all over it.
No Scubas or Mistrals were harmed in the process of this travesty! The top can is a badly dented orphan supplied by John. The Heathways guts are on loan, as is the bottom can, from complete regs that will go back together, more than likely. I'm going to try it out like this first, then add JB's supercharger scoop just for fun. I might even try out a Goldie valve, as well if I don't lose interest. I have to do some more metal work on the can to flatten it out a little more, and some cleanup on the valve, but it should work fine!

Sick, isn't it? But why not? It's sorta like putting a Chevy engine in a Ford, nome sayin'? Gotta admit, the USD diaphragms survive way better'n the Healthways ones. But don't think I'm losing my loyalty to the underdog, bro.

I'm surprised I havent tried that myself. I know my Voit Navy top can pops right on a dA can. Were there actual mods required?

Okay, Vance,
You've inspired me.
I happen to have an AMF Voit 50 Fathom regulator sans cans. I've been waiting for years to decide whether to get some of the Scuba Museum plastic cans for it, but now have another idea. I'm going to put it into my Healthways SCUBA Deluxe! I'm doing the opposite of what you're doing with the USD cans. I've looked, and the valve assembly won't fit into the Healthways original SCUBA, but will (with some spacers made of foam neoprene) fit into the Gold Label top box (I have a Healthways SCUBA Deluxe with a Gold Label top box, with the chrome and the inset of the can too). It should not be hard, and will probably really out-perform the SCUBA Deluxe single stage too.
More to follow.
John

Well, That experiment was a bust--the body of the AMF Voit 50 Fathom is too short to use on Healthways SCUBA Deluxe. It simply does not work, and I think this incompatibility was designed into the regulator. But it was a "nice try."
I could take apart my USD Mistral, and put the 50 FaThom guts into it, and that would work, but I like my Mistral too much! Oh well...
