Fall Conference
Sunday, October 8, 2017
Foss Waterway Seaport Museum
705 Dock Street - Tacoma, WA
YES - It's time again for some story telling. SO...Save the date and plan to join us. We've made arrangements to meet at the Foss Waterway Seaport Museum where Ryan Spence, Flashback Scuba, has his diving history exhibits and we have our Northwest Diving History display as well.
Our program will be from Noon to 4:00.
We may be able to arrange access to the museum from 10:00 to 12:00 so you can see all of the maritime exhibits as well as the diving displays. I'll let you know in advance if we can make these special arrangements for early access.
The program will consist of:
Association update
Special Presentations
Awards
Sea Story contest
The ship's wheel revolving trophy, presented here to Floyd by Dennis, was a gift from Rick and Ann Kaiser. Dennis made the stand and the engraved plaque.
REGISTER NOW for the October 8 Conference. Cost is $20 and includes food, coffee and soft drinks.
ALSO - REGISTER for the Sea Story Contest, and get prepared with your best story. We will have time for just SIX story tellers.
CONGRATULATIONS - John Baker. We had a raffle for a vintage Aqualung two-hose regulator for our April membership drive, and John's ticket was drawn. Thanks John and thanks to everyone that renewed their membership and to the new members. Your support is greatly appreciated.
MUSEUM PROJECTS:
Foss Waterway Seaport Museum. We've been fortunate to have a small exhibit at this facility. Ryan Spence has been very helpful with arranging for us to accompany his great exhibits. I met with the director, Wes Wenhardt, and he was very helpful. He showed me around the facility and gave me an update on the many projects that they are working on, including the live tanks for school children to get up close to some local marine animals. They are focusing a lot on education.
Oregon Coast Aquarium - Newport, Oregon. I met with Jenna Walker, Diving Safety Officer, and presented her with a proposal to establish a small exhibit featuring our association and the NW Diving Pioneers. I also spoke with Jim Burke. Our next step is to meet again this fall when they have slowed down a bit and discuss our exhibit project. Michael and Diana Hollingshead, Eugene Skindivers Supply, work with Jenna and Jim at the aquarium on special projects and taking divers in the aquarium. We are looking forward to setting up our small exhibit and offering special presentations for groups.
Call or email if you have any questions - comments - ideas
and if you want to volunteer to assist with a project.
