Merry Christmas!!! My Wife got me this mid-60's Voit Titan reg with Sportways Sea-Vue SPG for a present this Christmas. I put it on a tank and it holds air, and the SPG works so this should be a doable rebuild. Sorry for the bad photo. Also the T-Shirt in the photo was a gift this year. Mark

Mark, excellent: you've actually answered a question I've had for a while... I always wondered about the Titan-II, "But, but, but what about the Titan..."

Yep...wondered the same thing. Seems this one is a forgotten footnote in the history of Voit? When I type in "Voit Titan Reg." etc. on an online search, I get mostly info about the Titan II, and bugger all about this one. Or I get hits for the new/current Aqualung Titan...
The only thing I found about this Titan is that is was in Voit catalogues in 1965 and 1966, the next year the Titan-II was listed... Very little about this reg.
I had actually thought that this type of second stage with the exhaust in the diaphragm was already phased out and replaced by the "current" style of exhaust and "T" by 1965/1966? But I guess this was "the last stand" for this type of exhaust?
Anyway, other than putting it on a tank, I have not done anything with it. I am going to make a new diaphragm, but that should not be a problem. Mark

Hmmmmm? Looks like a flow-by-piston from your image: Scuba Star, Deep star... also might be a low IP-reg too, but if it's that late they may have gave it a better hard seat, instead of that dumb flat seat. Please keep us informed in your findings! Also, tell us more about the second stage valve...

I'm sure everyone will hear about this when I get around to taking it apart. Not sure if I should tear into this one, or my US Divers Aquarius? Then there is my long term project my US Divers DA Navy Approved...but that can wait a bit longer. Mark

I am curious as to how to make the diaphragm for that. I am working on a voit conqueror and I have a new silicone diaphragm that I was going to try and dremel the exhaust port into it. I can't seem to unbond the current disk to replace it with the old disk. Do some of the older diaphragms separate easier? How do you bond the plate to the new diaphragm?
in the 1965 Catalog the picture of the titan first stage and the Avalon first stage look identical to yours, but the product description is quite different.
Is it me or was having the exhaust port integrated with the diaphragm have "Bad Idea" written all over it.

WalrusJohn, if you have a good set of files and a dremel, I personally would see if you could leave the friction-plate on cut the ports into it, this would save you from finding an adhesive to bond the old one on. But John and Mark used their old plates and teased the plate off of the new diaphragm with a razor, then glued the old plate onto the silicone diaphragm... Mark, tell us more about that first stage!!!! JB

I just gently and then forcefully prized and prized the plate off the new donor diaphragm. It was a pain in the bum, but it worked in the end. I used black silicone sealant, the kind found at auto parts stores. It worked.
I agree with Jay Bird's idea, I might have a go at that way now that I own a Dremel and have a clue what I'm doing. Plus the diaphragm was not too much so if I mess it up, not the end of the World.
Other than having to make replacement diaphragms for these sort of second stage, I have had a positive experience with them. I think the "current" type second stages are easier to work on, but I like the look of these sort.
I have not messed with this at all yet. When I start on it, most likely I will start with the second stage and go from there. Mark

I used ShoeGoo to cement the old plate to the new diaphragm, being very careful to to fill in the holes or the sealing surface for the mushroom valve.

I looked at the 1965 Voit Cat. and the Titan and Avalon 1st stages sure look the same to me. Also my Titan 1st stage has an Over Pressure Valve on it, like those found on tilt valve equipped regs. My Titan is a downstream 2nd stage, where as the Avalon 2nd stage was a Tilt-Valve. I am wondering if they are the same 1st stage and Voit was using up "surplus" 2nd stages with the combo exhaust and main diaphragm. Had them labeled as "Titan" and saved money by using identical 1st stages on the Titan and Avalon? Sounds like a conspiracy theory...LOL!!! Just a random thought I had in my mind. Mark

It might be a way to get more facings on the shelves at scuba shops, Maybe that's where coca cola got the idea for "Old Coke", "New Coke" back in the 80's

Mark, is that the correct yoke-screw? I think I sent you one of the plastic kind if it isn't...

Hey Mark, You want to do some horse tradin' for the Sea-Vue SPG? I've got a HydroTwin II needs it. I got lots of single hosers to trade?
