In July we have our son's wedding in Monterey, then we are off to Japan in November. That makes September open. See you then.
Good Dives, Charlie

Yesterday and today, I turned on the Golf Channel when doing the dishes, and where were they broadcasting their golf from? Pebble Beach! I looked at those waters, and said, "Wow, what a dive site!"
So, while I cannot promise anything right now, this 2018 Monterey Rendezvous looks mighty tempting for me to come. I'm beginning to plot about how to drive down there from here.
No promises, but...

It's easy, John. Drive east or west until you get to I-5 then turn south. Check your phone for further details.

John,
Last week divers were reporting over 60' visibility at Stillwater Cove (off the Pebble Beach Course). Warm sunny days are starting some blooms. Fortunately, Jim has promised good weather and acceptable visibility in September.
Good Dives, Charlie

I am curious about this event. I am an New England diver so I have some basic questions.
What is the water temp typically? Do you generally dive with hoods and gloves? Is there reasonable lodging in the area and what is the best airport to fly in on? I heard mention that boats may be available I assume there are dive shops where I can rent tanks.
It sounds like a great way to explore the west coast with some local experts.

WW, Water temps are usually around 50° F. Divers with good sense wear hoods and gloves and often drysuits. The farther you get from downtown Monterey (ie. Seaside, Marina), the more reasonable lodging gets. Monterey Airport is a short hop from most dive sites. www.montereyairport.comYou may find more flights into San Jose where you can rent a car and make the short drive to Monterey. Last year we met at the Breakwater near a dive shop with tanks. www.aquarius2.comMany of us have more tanks than we know what to do with. We might be able to work something out. A few of us have small boats. No hard plans on who might bring what. I haven't heard anything about booking a dive charter. Good Dives, Charlie

Not a lot different than New England on the temp. I wear a hood at 50 for sure, gloves too. Hopefully the vis is better than the 15 feet typical in New England.

Good days and less good days. I doubt that tanks are going to be a problem, as Charlie said. Unless you want something special, maybe. Flying into SF or San Jose is probably most cost effective, as Monterey is a smaller airport. Hope to see you there!

If you fly, leave your heavy stuff at home. You will be able to rent or borrow anything you need in the way of weightbelts, tanks, wetsuits, et. cet. If you have something special to share, please bring it with you because we would love to see it. The weather in September is usually warm and sunny, there are many good places to eat and the company is amazing. If the diving isn't good we can walk down the street to the Monterey Bay Aquarium in the afternoon. As volunteers ther, my wife and I have passes for all attendees. If you come, you can compare it to the New England Aquarium.
