I think its official now, youse guys have created a monster. Now that I have my Sportsways/New England Divers Hydro-Twin I back in the water I've decided to try to fix what was my first DH reg. I took apart my early 60's Snark III (pre silver), which was given to me by a neighbor around 1977. I used it for a while but it hasn't worked in about 30 years. When I took it apart I found heavy corrosion (not verdigris) on the adjusting side of the HP diaphragm. I've found some of the parts are different from a Silver. Does anybody have a manual for the older Snark III's? I have a couple for the Silvers.

Snarky, it's my understanding that that reg was a copy of an Aqualung reg., so much so that ol' Jacky Custard was super PO'ed about it! The boys at Nemrod told him to go get stuffed as those patents were not applicable in Spain-- SNORT! I have no way to verify this though. I know you're having problems with posting images: if you put them up on your Flickr, I can post them for you JB

Hey Snark, Send me a pm with your email address so I can send a scanned PDF of what I have on Nemrod SnarkIII

I read the Snark manual as I scanned it. Nemrod recommends using a nitric acid solution to clean metal parts. Most members here will agree that's little harsh for these old irreplaceable parts. I use a industry recognized cleaner for scuba parts. Other folks here may have other solutions for cleaning parts.

Charlie I've been using a 25% vinegar solution

WHEN I had a lemon tree, I found that straight lemon juice was amazing for killing green gunk and lime, to which I would neutralize with mild baking-soda, then a final flush with water...

I'm working to clean parts for this reg, as I mentioned it was really bad. The high pressure seat looks usable and it was sealing, although it too is nasty grungy. Can the HP seat be immersed in 25% vinegar solution without doing any it any harm?

Phil, I did check that out and plan on using USD replacement parts where possible and necessary. The HP seat that can be used I'm assuming is from a DAAM not a RAM or single stage. I'm also looking into a 10mmx1 to 3/8-24 adapter from a Mustang brake system to see if that can be used to adapt the opv to something more useable

Skip, vinegar shouldn't hurt the valve seat: just be sure to neutralize the acid after and give it a very light coating of silicone grease...

Does anyone use diluted hydrogen peroxide to clean up nasty parts?

CJ, never heard of that one: that don't mean nuttin' though! Hmmm, d'know, but H-perox would seem to me to be more base, than acid: the acid neutralizes the base, turning itself into salt water...

While working on adapters for the Titan project and my Dacor body, I cut down a brake adapter I got from the UK for my Snark Silver. It was cut down at both ends and rethreaded on the 3/8" x 24 end. The full length adapter (turned down to fit) can be used on the earlier Snarks, but this cut down version will only work with the Silver. There is a bit more room for the 3 way to fit between the can and the OPV hole on the Silver, making things a bit less awkward overall. Unfortunately, the older ones must have the splitter sitting up high above the can, which makes the thing a bit vulnerable to being caught, banged, or broken. I thought about shaving one side of a splitter enough to make it fit down lower, but haven't attempted it yet.
