[How do they ride on your back? Comfortable?]
They ride very nicely with a flat VDH backplate. They are great for beach dives where I have to swim out for a while. One thing I never expected is that I was able to take 10 pounds off my weight belt from the weight I wear with a single steel 71.2. Denser steel? Dunno. Mark

Yeah, I use a few pounds less with my old 38's and they are thin walled LP 1800's (USD) or 1880's (Voit). A bit heavier than a single 72 but much more comfortable, with just harness or my own modified Dacor plastic back pack and wing. I prefer the harness using a horse collar however.

I have a new pair of twin 40s, 3000 psig, which I have put an old, military harness onto. I had the bands, but not the backplate. Rather than go for a backplate, I went for the military harness. These are thin, so the regulators hit my back a bit. I have my Healthways Scuba hybrid, and it does fine, being thinner, but it's not meant for 3000 psig so I have to be careful with it.

Mark Yeah, I had bought a pair of Sportways twin 50's 2280's, but they were so bloody heavy I never used them.....sold them to a fellow in fort worth who stood 6' or better.....fit him perfect. John, what dia. are your new twin 40's?

Contact my dive buddy Allan Klauda. He makes the best vintage harnesses on the planet (in my humble opinion. His email is aandd_adventures@yahoo.com

I got a wing to do the same thing with one of my old plastic backpacks, but haven't gotten around to figuring out how to put the two together. You got some pics I can go to school on? For posting from Flickr, read this for the easy way to do it. Open your picture on Flickr. Go down to bottom right. Click "Share" (arrow turning to right). Choose "BBcode" button. Choose size from dropdown menu. Control C to copy url, go back to your post, insert your picture url in the text block with Control V. DO NOT append the url. It will work as is. You don't have to add any code. Click BBcode bottom right on "Create Post". Next screen will show all the code. Yeah, kew. Click Preview, bottom left. You should see your post, with pics. I suppose this is the wrong thread for this question/topic. How about a new thread with your modded backpack?

I don't have that assembly handy right now, buried somewhere in the garage. However, it is simple enough.......drill to 5/8 holes in the DACOR backpac that line up but fit under or over the tank bands where the bolts go thru. Next, pick up some 1/4 x 1 in flat bar and cut to about the same length that your bands are spaced. Drill two 5/8 holes in the flat bar.
Attach the wing and melt with a soldering iron two holes that match the two drilled holes in the nylon web between the wings. You can get fancy and put two grommets there if you want, I didn't....the melted nylon hasn't torn yet.
Pickup two long chrome or ss bolts, some washers and wing nuts (wings nuts for sure)I forget the length, but I think the bolts are either 6 or 8 inch.
Slide a washer on the bolts, run the bolts thru the pac, wing, and over or under the tank bands. One the opposite side of the tank bands, lay the flat bar and run the bolts thru them, apply the washer and wing nut.
The reason I don't use this set up anymore is, 1. I have one wing and two sets of twins. Pain in the backside to set up and change. 2. My wing is getting on in age and I don't foresee buying another. 3. Using the horsecollar bc and basic harness assembly is quick and less stuff to deal with......however, if your patient, (I'm not) this backpac assembly works just fine.

Sea Hunt Forever Equipment...- Considering that we re-enact underwater knife fights,... And that Silver Springs Park management does not allow real knives,... And that we have to have FAKE knives that are authentic to the Sea Hunt TV Show... There are two knife styles that are prevalent: The military KABAR (because Mike Nelson was a former Navy Frogman) and a commercial knife which I think was called a Vulcan. Allan Klauda has actually made up rubber bladed replicas of the Vulcan. And, several of us have found a hard rubber replica of the KABAR from Cold Steel Co. (below). The Sea Hunt Forever Show is part of the Florida Springs Fest on Saturday and Sunday, March 2-3, 2019. Our cast of about 20 divers will be re-enacting underwater scenes from the 1960s Sea Hunt TV Show. Visitors to the park can watch the underwater show from glass bottom boats.

Here are my twin 45s, with my Sherwood manifold (duel post). But I used my Mossback Mk 3 regulator, and so one post did not have a regulator on it for this dive in Yaquina Bay last summer. These are my twin 52s (US Divers steel tanks). These are "floaters," and I need to use six pounds of weights with them. Note, this is a DA Aqualung regulator mounted on the tanks (NOT Sea Hunt qualified, as this regulator was before Sea Hunt). These are my twin 42s, which are 2100 psig tanks, actually converted 20 man life raft bottles, that we used in the USAF as our "jump tanks." To see the jump tanks in jumping configuration, here's a photo of Rick Harder wearing full parascuba gear: Note that I'm on the far right in parascuba gear too (circa 1975). I'll get a photo up of my new AL twins, which are 3000 psig tanks, soon. They are about the same diameter as my jump tanks. John

I kinda lost interest in using my 38s when I was told I'd need more weight vs a steel 72. I'm already loaded up with more weight than I like, so that killed it for me. But being able to take off weight? They are suddenly more appealing! Here's the original backpack I got with them, which needs new straps, but ought to go back on: Did Mike Nelson ever use one like this?

Sea Hunt Forever Equipment...- The Smallest Details - The cast isn't actually required to wear a depth gauge... Simply because the ones that are correct for the Sea Hunt TV Show are just too rare much less do they still work. The Sportsways "dial" depth gauge is the best known gauge for appearing on Mike Nelson's wrist. This one (below) is a 150 ft model. Apparently the 75 ft model is more true to the show. - You might ask, "What about those scenes where Mike Nelson is diving as deep as 180 feet?". Well, the truth is almost everything in the Sea Hunt show was filmed no deeper than 30 feet or less for the better lighting conditions. Silver springs is maximum 33 feet deep right at the bottom. They simulated depth by showing Mike Nelson swimming down over and over again from different angles. Sometimes when a scene shows divers swimming level, they might only be a few feet from the surface. Sometimes you can even see the surface in the background. - The Sportsways gauge is a unique instrument. Notice that it has no needle. Instead, it has a face with a window in it. And behind the window a dial moves to indicate the depth.
