This is my second topic today about Tanks, but I need some suggestions again.
I got my first Steel 72s a couple days ago (about the same time as the Alu 80s) and these are current and passed everything. I have a Dacor tank pack which uses a modern styled band that fits Alu 80s perfectly. The smaller diameter 72s, not the best fit. It sometimes slides on dry bands. I haven't tried it wet yet.
Most of you dive Steel 72s, let me know what you think are good backpack options.
That will be it from me today!

Would a VDH backplate work for this application, provided that it comes with cam bands?

So basically the metal band packs are meant for 72s? That is a cute little healthways, perfect sized for a travel kit.

How vintage do you want to be? I have a couple of Scubapro plastic packs from the 80's with a tank band adjustable for 72's or 80's . They need new straps.

I think as a rule of thumb, anything before 1970 is for a steel-72... I may be wrong but I think the lanoonamum tanks came out in '71-72? Pick something cool though dangit: things like that HW and SW really pique people's curiosities Never be boring JB

As for vintage, as long as the tank pack isn't a neon and works, I'm all for it! PM me if you're interested in selling them Charlie.
Jay, I agree. I want something that has character and maybe some backstory to it.
Has anyone here ever tried making a tankpack??

Remember, we're the ambassadors to the past and history of scuba: try to think of it as our duty to show the world that were lots of good and interesting brands, not just Aqualung, Voit and ScubaPro... Everyone knows those ones!

Pick something cool though dangit: things like that HW and SW really pique people's curiosities Never be boring JB The first "modern" AL tanks were USD 72s (true 72 cubic foot tanks rated at 2,475 psig). The AL 80 came later. Those first AL 72s were the infamous "floaters " which took "6 lbs each to sink. I know, as I had a set of doubles made from those tanks. That, I think, was the 71-72 time frame. The PVC tube held 16 lbs of conical weights (8 x 2 lb weights). Note also how long these tanks are too. The photo is by Bruce Higgins of me in Clear Lake, Oregon in the early 1980s. John

That's what they called them in the old days according to Jim Steele: he'd know! Right now the BC is just a prop: who knows how many hours I have trying to get it to hold air reliably, but rest assured, I will make it work one day...

No, they don't crush yer kidneys: sorry, I didn't answer your question! It's a euphemism: it stuck because of the alliteration of the two hard-C-sounds together JB

Ahhh I see now, so it looks like one and might feel like one, but it's not as bad as it sounds!
How long has that dacor been a project for you??
