The clear HP valve caps seem to be a Nemrod thang.

I was really likin' on it too. So the plate-thing only acts as a guide? I don't see any advantage to it then.

I guess the little plate keeps the valve from wandering?

JB JB, Don't think of this as directing the lever for this Nemrod second stage, but rather as directing the air flow. One of the criticisms of the tilt valve was that the air wasn't directed at the diver. If (I haven't seen it in these photos) the air is not only kept off the diaphragm with the cover, but also directed at the diver's mouth, it could be very helpful to the function of the tilt valve. I don’t have anything to offer to this thread, but I will say that blue Scuba Star is one fine looking reg.

Join the Healthways cult Ty!!! No seriously, Healthways are fun to dive and there are no other regs that look like them. Mark

Didn't some of the very early tilt-valves overheat a lot? Mark

Didn't some of the very early tilt-valves overheat a lot? Mark I never heard of that phenomenon, but it makes me think overheating might be a problem with single stage tilt valve regs. I read that the tilt valve was used to lower HP to ambient w/o a first stage. A couple of early single hose tilt valve regs did this. I don't remember which ones.

Didn't some of the very early tilt-valves overheat a lot? Mark Mark, yes, it was the nickle-radium alloy they used that caused it when it came in contact with salt water. Here's an image of what can happen: JB

Didn't some of the very early tilt-valves overheat a lot? Mark Hi Mark, No, there was no overheating with tilt valves. If you look at your physics, you'll see that overheating would only occur when tanks are filled, not emptied. When the compressed air pressure is reduced, so is the temperature. P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2 The pressure times volume divided by the temperature (absolute temperature) of the first state is equal to pressure times volume divided by temperature of the second state. This is why regulators have a difficult time in very cold water, as the air temperature is reduced upon inhalation from the interstage pressure and temperature. So ice crystals can form in really cold water. Whether it is a tilt valve or a downstream valve makes no difference with this phenomena. Now, I must correct myself, in that I just looked up the Scott Air Pak and found that it is a two-stage system. The only one with a full-pressure tilt valve was the full-face mask system called the Normalair, from Normalair Ltd., out of Canada. John

Didn't some of the very early tilt-valves overheat a lot? Mark I saw this this morning and thought, what the heck has Mark been smokin', but then I realized what day yesterday was, 4/1 April Fools Day! Yeah, that one was "high and out side", but I checked before swinging at that pitch, so I'll take my base now JB
