Ok guys, I’m starting a new thread here so as not to derail other threads, but I spoke with XS Scuba today (they own Oceanways now) and they were very receptive to the idea. They’re calculating minimums and pricing, but if the numbers work, we might be seeing an Aquala green full foot soon. That’s if I think I can sell them. 😉

Ty, please post a picture of the fin and let the members discuss the pro's and con's of the design. I might get a pair for pool work and warm water diving but I have concerns about using them in cold water.

The following video demonstrates how Oceanways Aquapro fins (above) are manufactured at the Pacific Molding plant in Corona, California: A black version of the fins is on sale nowadays: When I learned to dive at my university sub-aqua club back in the late 1960s, everybody wore British-made Typhoon clones of the original Italian full-foot Cressi Rondine fins, on which the Oceanways are based, both in the pool and in open water. We bought two differently sized pairs, one normal shoe size for the indoor pool and the other a size larger to accommodate booties outdoors in cold water. Or we just purchased one larger size pair and wore booties with them both indoors and outdoors. DRW

Ty, this will be very cool if you do it! The color of your gear always reminds me of the light-olive they used to paint air craft: I know it's not he same color JB

Ty, if they do become successful, maybe you could do a reissue of the miniatures?!?!?!? JB

Sorry guys for being late to my own party, but things were busy at the shop all day and this is the first opportunity I’ve had to check the forum.
David, thanks for posting the pic and the vid of the Oceanways, so Jim could check them out.
Jim, that’s exactly what the fin would look like, but it would just be in the exclusive “water green” color. Black is the only color Oceanways offers, as the blue ones are now discontinued,
JB, the Aquala green is more of a forest/hunter green, if I had to throw down some generic color names. Gumby, to my eyes, has a little touch of turquoise to him but that would be a cool color too.

Ok, guys, here’s an update. I’ve spoken with XS Scuba, who now owns Oceanways, and they’ll do a special run for Aquala. The minimums are 50 units per size, and the adult sizes are: (5-7) (7-8.5) (8.5-10) (10-12) (12-14). While I’d like to run all sizes, I don’t think I’m ready to take that much risk. After all that would load me up with 250 pairs of fins. If I were going to run three sizes, what should they be?

Great to hear that the Aquala green Oceanways fin project is progressing, Ty. In my case, the 12-14 would work well for suited snorkelling and the 10-12 for barefoot. I already have a pair of blue 12-14 Oceanways and they fit the bill for the former purpose. My suggestion, therefore, is to run the three largest sizes, namely 8.5-10, 10-12 and 12-14. Undersized full-foots are no fun and will cause cramps if squeezed into. For the smaller-footed, two possible solutions to oversized full-foot fins are to wear socks or booties inside or to use fin grips/keepers over the heel, arch and instep as below:

I agree with DRW on this one. The 3 largest sizes would be the best choice in my opinion. I'm a size 13-14 depending on the shoe and finding full foot fins that work well is a PITA. I've ended up with blisters on my feet many times!!

Ty, I agree with DRW: I wear a size nine, which is the average size JB

I have not seen one that wide before. Ty, I agree on the sizes. I would certainly like one of the 8.5-10 (I think, I'll have to check). All, please note that this is a life-time purchase. My wife is still using the blue/yellow ones from the 1990s. With good care, such as rinsing after salt water/pool water use, occasional silicone application, etc. these fins will last a lifetime.
