DWR, That's a huge fin keeper you show! I have not seen one that wide before. John Yes, indeed, John. The fin grips are actually South African in origin, made from silicone by the Zero Diving Company there, but no longer in production. The picture above shows the red version too. They were both popular for their bright contrasting colour with underwater hockey players who wear full-foot fins during matches and need to keep them secure. I remember buying them online from a French underwater hockey retailer a few years ago. The Zero Diving company. I believe the Zero Diving company make their fin grips from webbing these days: It's true that fin keepers made of rubber do tend to have narrower straps, particularly in recent times: However, vintage ones from the 1960s and 1970s do have quite broad straps, such as the Beuchat originals seen below with a pair of unusual buckled Mares ones:

DRW,
I just broke tho of the original fin keepers. Do you have any recommendations on how to use these fin keepers without breaking them?
John

I haven't had any break on me, John, so I suppose I've been lucky in that respect. I don't think there's much you can do when they break during use, but if it happens when putting them on, undue force has probably been applied. This is how they are donned:
