I put it onto my "Watch List," but am unsure about bidding on it.

It was dog when new and never worked any better than a humble USD MIstral. Many have tried to make them work better and failed, save your money. The only cool thing is the catchy label which one can purchase as a reproduction and the shiny chrome cans.IMHO of course! Michel.

One thing we can all agree on is that it still has a cooler name than the Super Titanium regulator respirator heat sink 3000 XL (reg names of today)

Like enlighten us further daddy-o! What makes it so kingly, er ahhh, royal? JB The Royal Mistral is a balanced single stage. Not as good as the Misuba rev4 balanced? regulator. Mebbe I should name it the Royal? Misuba! Or not.

Mebbe I should name it the Royal? Misuba! Or not. The Royal Mistral by U.S. Divers Company was a very different regulator from the Mistral. Yes, it was balanced, but also it did not have the same Venturi orifice as the Mistral; actually it lacked one. The Venturi was so powerful that it needed a metal tab to induce turbulence and make it breathable. Even so, it sometimes really blasted the diver, as this Video shows. Somewhere, there is another video and website of a complete rebuild of the USD Royal Mistral John PS, I found the site. vintagescubadiving.com/us-divers-royal-mistral-chronicle-of-a-death-foretold/

Well... couldn't it be hotrodded with a venturi tube, say off of a regular plane-Jane Mistral? JB No, the USD Royal Mistral poured all the flow right down the intake horn, then disrupted it just enough to allow very easy breathing. Take a look at the link I provided and read the commentary. The Royal Mistral is the ultimate "hotrodded" single-stage double hose regulator. John
