Herman, Phil- thanks guys you gave me a couple of things to try. 1) try it on a different tank. 2) I have an IP gauge that I can put on the BC hose and see how much the IP drops when breathing, granted this will be in my kitchen not underwater but I should get an idea of what the IP does.

Phil, I have seen your Frankenregs. Maybe someday I will add a safe second to one of my regs but I prefer to train for free ascents when diving in water shallower than fifty feet.

I put this reg on a different tank today in my living room. I put an IP pressure gauge on the BC inflator hose. The reg seems to breath fine, the IP drops from 140 to 135 when inhaling a deep breath. I was trying to inhale as hard as I could to put as much of an air delivery requirement as possible. I think Herman may have hit it right when he mentioned the valve. I think my next step will be to dive it again on the tank I used in my living room and see how it works. FYI I dove it on a HP 117 with a DIN valve with a yoke adapter. Today I had it on a USD 72 with a USD "J" valve.

That's called a "hobble" Please note the donkey's front feet We can't have you breathing too easily, that might make you stuck-up JB EDIT: I'm sure you had the same expression as that poor donkey on seeing inside...

I am surprised that someone took the trouble to put a Phoenix 1st stage on and not an HPR 2nd stage. The difference in ease of breathing with the addition of the HPR 2nd is night and day. My 2psi. Feel free to ignore me. 😎

While a bit difficult to say for sure, the lever supports appear to be bent, maybe too tight and the lever looks too low, hard to say for sure without it in my hands. These regs are picky about how they are set up and the nozzle in the wrong place pretty much defeated the venturi altogether.

Feel free to ignore me. 😎 Yes, I agree, but keep in mind that the Phoenix was available several years before the HPR. There are probably a number of early Phoenix upgrades that never got the HPR when it became available. It is interesting when I look at my files and the record showing the time periods when I designed one versus the other, etc. It wasn't that long ago, but some things have changed... As far as I can tell, this one has different yoke than any of the ones that Bryan offered. The plating is also a bit different. The serial number should have the year, at least that is what I showed in the drawings, but there were some production liberties by some of the machine shops that Bryan used.

Luis, when was the Phoenix introduced? I seem to recall getting one from Bryan in 2009 or 2010. M

Luis, when was the Phoenix introduced? I seem to recall getting one from Bryan in 2009 or 2010. M I have some drawings for the Phoenix that are dated 2005. From 2006 I have lots more drawings, calculations, and pictures. The HPR drawings are dated from 2011. The project actually started with a different name. The Argonaut project started around 2012, and I have hardware pictures from 2013.
