Actually, there are a number of places that you can park for the night. Garden Road, between the airport and the fairgrounds is one place. There are frequently people parked in the Brakewater parking lot all night, usually in front of the no camping signs. as long as you pay for parking no one seems to care. Monterey PD doesn't enforce parking and the parking control officers don't work nights. Message me and I'll send you my address. As long as you don't smoke, you can stay with us on Friday night.

This week, I've been tuning up my Pilot and putting finishing touches on a DA. I mentioned in another post that I'll be bringing some triples, but maybe just as a showpiece. I plan to come down Friday and dive Saturday and Sunday. Reports from the Breakwater this weekend are that it's calm but murky (much like my mind). Hope for good vis to do some wide-angle shots of vintage gear.
My family won't be joining me until later in the week. I haven't made any plans, but folks are welcome to come by my place Saturday night. I suppose we can discuss food on Saturday.
Good Dives, Charlie

Cheapest and cleanest place to stay? Nothing cheap in Monterey but the less expensive places are on Fremont/Munras corredor. Those are older motels on what used to be Highway 1 many years ago. Conversely, the closer to downtown and Cannery row the more expensive the room. I haven't checked the prices since we moved here but make sure you are sitting down when you do.

Cheapest and cleanest place to stay? I have had friends stay at the Lone Oak Lodge and they said it was a nice diver friendly hotel. It has a dive gear rinse tank area that's nice but I personally have never stayed there. Jim is right though, the farther you are away from the Aquarium the cheaper the hotels.

Ty, the Road Warrior (my wife) suggests: if you want a friendly no nonsense place, I'd stay in Pacific Grove right next to Monterey- same distance to the dive site as most of the places in Monterey proprer, and cute, quiet and cosy. Monterey hotels mostly-aren't. Sea Breeze Hotel Pacific Grove: Haven't stayed here for a while, but it's pleasant, has good safe parking, may get a fireplace in your room. You'll likely be out too early for free breakfast, but I think they even have a little BBQ in the evening by the pool. www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32840-d84775-Reviews-Sea_Breeze_Inn_Cottages-Pacific_Grove_Monterey_County_California.htmlThese others are all in the same area, and been around a long time. Quaint and quiet. Bide a Wee Cottages: www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32840-d248368-Reviews-Bide_A_Wee_Inn_Cottages-Pacific_Grove_Monterey_County_California.htmlDeer Haven Inn: www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32840-d529435-Reviews-Deer_Haven_Inn-Pacific_Grove_Monterey_County_California.htmlLighthouse Lodge and Cottages: www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g32840-d78914-Reviews-Lighthouse_Lodge_Cottages-Pacific_Grove_Monterey_County_California.htmlIf you want to try a Bed and Breakfast, this place is very cute, in downtown PG and has a parking lot. I'm assuming you have a rental car and gear, so don't want you to have to park on the street. Other B and Bs are street parking. The folks here are REALLLLY nice- almost to the point of being overwhelming. It was hard to stay here on business as they wanted to hang out with the clients. The Bide-a-Wee cottages are clean and quiet. We used to stay there with our dogs. Prices vary according to the number of events going on. Short walk to the ocean.

This may be overenthusiastic on my part as it is a long drive from So. Cal., but I plan on arriving late Friday afternoon. I'll be staying in the Salinas area that night (but Monterey proper is close by). Jerry and I plan on having dinner somewhere Friday night. If anyone else is interested in dinner as well on Friday we can set that up here. Suggestions welcomed. Mark

Guys, I appreciate all of the lodging recommendations, but I’ve had a family health issue come up and I’m no longer able to attend. I hope y’all have a fun and safe time!

Well I just finished pumping my 72's i'm using this weekend to 2800 psi, plenty of air for the dives, love those old steel tanks.
Ty I'm sorry you can't make it, we will have fun in your honor. I also just hooked up my travel trailer and will be leaving for Monterey in the morning. See you all this weekend.
