First off...I should have posted a photo, and just might, but first I might as well ask. I found a Blue J-Valve Pull Rod this last weekend at a vintage Scuba event. Anyone have any idea which company marketed blue J-Valve Rods? US Divers/Aqua-Lung, Voit, etc? Thanks Mark

Or, some Daddy-O hip cat, exhausted after some back seat bingo, was kicking back in his pad, toking on some Mary Jane, and thought, you know, I think my J-valve rod would look better in blue. Once he painted it he figured he had it Made in the Shade with the coolest scuba reserve activator on the planet. Or, more likely, Voit.

Yep, still have the 40 Fathom, and Titan as well. Guess I was talking about Voit Double hose regs, that will have to wait. Good luck finding a Voit J-Valve with seat that will not shatter, or so I hear? Mark

My Buddy Rich (50,001 Questions) Has One...- Hard to see real well in this photo but, the blue reserve rod is a serious component to Rich's authentic Voit tank set up... Including the original chopper gun molded fiberglass back pack. - The blue reserve rod is actually made of aluminum and anodized blue. Scratches and bends pretty easily so be gentle!

Good luck finding a Voit J-Valve with seat that will not shatter, or so I hear? Mark No, Mark, that only applies to the newer of the Voit J-valves/Titan-J/Trieste-J regulators. It is the one which looks like this that is the problem: IMG_1043 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Note that the black valve, which looks identical, isn't; the J-valve seat on that valve is good. I think these were produced for the U.S. Navy, and used a different compound in the valve seat. It appears that this valve is made of aluminum. Here's the difference: IMG_1044 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Note that one, out of the black valve, is good, while the other has been damaged. It will still restrict the air flow (the damaged valve), but it will not completely cut it off at 300 psig. The older Voit valves were based off the U.S. Divers Company valves, with only a name change, and should be okay. It appears that the Buddy Rich AMF Voit gear incorporates the older valve, and should be fine. John

If I end up finding a Voit Double Hose Reg and J-Valve in the near future...then my life (cash flow) is going a lot better than I thought! ha ha! No, really...someday I'd like to get a Voit Tank, -Valve, reg, etc., but they seem to be on the more "cult collectable" status. But, I have lucked into things from time to time. Mark

Take this opportunity to make the old J-Valve fitting into an SPG port.

Most of my J-Valves already have a High Pressure Port, which I never use. I dive with a J-Valve most of the time now. Some of my single hose regs have a SPG on them, but I have no problems with my J-Valves. Mark

Most double hose regs don't have the HP port, or have one that's inconvenient. So an integrated J valve, or a J valve on the tank makes a nice alternative take off point. My Titan IIs have an LP port directly above (or below) an HP port, which means you can't use a 3 way, so the J valve port makes sense.
