Most double hose regs don't have the HP port, or have one that's inconvenient. So an integrated J valve, or a J valve on the tank makes a nice alternative take off point. My Titan IIs have an LP port directly above (or below) an HP port, which means you can't use a 3 way, so the J valve port makes sense. That's not quite true about the Titan/Trieste not being able to use a multi-port adapter with these regulators. I have been using one type on my Trieste II for decades, which allows me to run my power inflators and safe second (a MR-12 second stage octopus) off the same port. I used that combo today during my dive. John

If I end up finding a Voit Double Hose Reg and J-Valve in the near future...then my life (cash flow) is going a lot better than I thought! ha ha! No, really...someday I'd like to get a Voit Tank, -Valve, reg, etc., but they seem to be on the more "cult collectable" status. But, I have lucked into things from time to time. Mark Mark, I have a Trieste II with a J valve. I will take it to our meet next week and ask Vance to check the j valve.

You can use a 3 way adapter on the Trieste/Titan II, but you can't use one AND the HP port at the same time in any configuration I can think of. That's where the J-valve plug with a 3/8" port comes in handy. I suppose one could find a 2 way that doesn't cover the HP port or a combination of adapters that works. I made the statement that this is an opportunity because most Voit J-valve seats crumble, and are unsafe to use. Since you can't safely use the J-valve, it needs to be removed and plugged so you might as well use it as an HP port. There is a J-valve plug/HP adapter that was commercially made for this, and I've made a couple by drilling a commercial plug and by turning a new one. I gave one to CJ for his Trieste.

On my yesterday's dive, my Trieste II had a Scubapro counsel (depth gauge, compass and pressure gauge, all non-digital), an inflator for my Para-Sea BC, and a MR-12 octopus, mounted on a single-outlet USD solid manifold with twin AL40 cylinders. I'll get you a photo soon. I enjoy doing something I'm not supposed to be able to do. The trick is to use to right adaptor. [/img] Note hat the HP line is just visible, and I have my MR-12 octopus. John PS, Photobucket is again becoming impossible to use. I'll correct the photo later.

I love an innovation! Let's see the pics! Okay, here are the pictures of my Trieste II with all the gagets aboard. But it's not innovation, as this is how this regulator has been configured since at least the 1980s. IMG_0013 by John Ratliff, on Flickr This view is of the regulator on the twin AL 40s, my newest doubles set. I love the way it rides with the military harness. IMG_0014 by John Ratliff, on Flickr With the Trieste II still mounted to the solid manifold, you can see the layout horizontally, with a LP hose coming off each side. Above, you can see the HP hose to my SPG/Counsel. IMG_0015 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Here you can see the splitter, which converts the one LP outlet into four LP outlets, two to the right, one down, and one under the regulator and to the left. Also, there is room for the SPG on the HP outlet of the Trieste II/Titan regulator. This is a Dacor Model OAR Right Angle Multiple Hose Swivel. "Adaptor similar to above, but features one port at a right angle with the longer body to provide better clearance when mounted on a tank." Dacor Catalog, 1978, page 12. I have two of these adaptors, one on this Trieste II regulator, and one on my White Stag DEEP regulator (single hose, with of course multiple hoses). John PS, the J-valve plug adaptor is also a good idea.

Yes, I see how that adapter works. Wow. But the HP port adapter on the j-valve makes it so much easier.

CrabbyJim,
No, these were rather common on regulators in the 1980s. Most people with the Scubapro Mk VII had this one to route a LP octopus regs or inflator hose in the opposite direction from the outlet.
