Phil, thank you for articulating that! I've heard various people talk about it but they NEVER describe a method for achieving it... JB Damn it Phil, you know what happens to folks who leak secrets outside the clan!

JB Damn it Phil, you know what happens to folks who leak secrets outside the clan! I know, sorry..... But, actually, I'm not! I just can't stand it that the GL (We're not worthy, we're not worthy......) doesn't get its props for being one of the very best breathing DH regs ever produced. That's not a small thing. All you need to do is adjust it properly. That's alls I'M sayin'. Wait, what happens?

Well, I think I'm goin' to adjust both my Gold Label and my Hybrid Scuba regulators. By the way, I haven't heard anyone say anything about the deeper box for the GL than the Deluxe. The bottom box is not flat, but tapered down to the hole for the regulator mechanism, which allows a better lever adjustment, with more mechanical advantage.

Also, with the augmentation of the Scuba Deluxe with a snorkel-jet, you can get it pretty danged close to the Goldie's performance: It'll turn a rather pedestrian reg into something to write home about... As Phil al'ays sez, "Jus' sayin'..." As for the adjustments, I think one of the really long handled Allen-wrenches would be very helpful with very fine adjustments. I have an old oven from the late 1920's, and adjusting the pilot-light is very tricky too, just a fraction of a turn, like a 32nd, is required to keep it lit--UFF DA! JB

John I'd never noticed the difference between the Deluxe and the GL top cans. John is correct that the GL allows the valve to be set away from the diaphragm more than the Deluxe. The valve "platform' is convex on the GL and concave on the Scuba and the Deluxe. However, all 3 cans are pretty much equally rounded, not flat like a USD. Scuba: GL:

It will make for a balanced 1st stage like a Royal AM, but better!. You will have one of the best breathing DH regs out there. With the Phoenix you get HP and LP ports to add a pressure guage, BC inflators, octopus regs, etc... My 2psi.

There's a few o-rings that you can get at the hardware store, and you'll need a new exhaust valve. The diaphragms are often reusable, but new ones are inexpensive. Generally, the nylon seat is fine but occasionally they leak. However it's easy to find a good one or clean the original up. There's a couple of tremendously long threads on here with more information than you'd ever want on the Healthways Scuba models. These aren't great performers, but they are adequate for a relaxed dive in shallow water. It's fun to get these old regs up and running and see what things were like for the OGs back in the day.

It looks like Vance has led the thread off topic willy-nilly once again! So, back to the topic: Healthways tank valves!
Umm, I got nothing. They're good?

I agree! There are several HW threads on here. Hundreds of posts, and lots of info. Check 'em out!
BACK to the topic (you guys are as incorrigible as I): I have a couple of 1/2"NPT HW valves that appear to have HP ports. I'll dig 'em out and see what's what. I might need to take them over to Jim Steele to get his perspective. And maybe install one on a tank and charge it up to see what happens! Pics will follow.
