Hi John, thanks so much for the warm welcome. First of all, let me thank you for your service and contribution to the sport of diving. I love the Pacific Northwest, it’s God’s country. I spent four years there, two attending Linfield College and finally graduating from the University of Washington. I remember the cold water well.
I have a couple of second generation Calypso’s and really like them. I do favor US Divers regulators in general, especially the RAM, Conshelf’s, Calypso VI and VI. I still have a lot of Calypso IV’s that I used when I taught classes. I also have some White Stag regulators, 4000, 5000 and Dreadnaught. I hope to post pictures of them once I figure out how to use Flickr LOL.

Hi Art, just saw your post. I too love diving Hawaii. I've dove all the main islands and a few of the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. There are a couple of great turtle dives right off Waikiki. These days (when I can get over there) I spend most of my time diving out of Honokohau Harbor, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii'i. I have my secret spots up and down the Kona coast depending on whether I fancy a lobster dinner, Tiger Shark spotting, spearfishing Ono, or trying to get the perfect photo of a Humuhumunukunukuapua`a.
I keep a full steel 72 tank with a J-valve, a 1958 USD Mistral and a Hawaiian backpack ready to go at a friend's place in Captain Cook so I am ready to hit the water immediately whenever I can sneak away from work and head over for a few days. I somehow earned the nickname "Mai Tai Mark" so apparently I also enjoy après-dive very much. Keep up the postings. I am enjoying seeing what you are doing with your regs. P.S. I just read your affinity for Calypso IV's. I have rebuilt several, including the one I bought new in the mid-1970s.

Art, you mentioned having some White Stag regulators. I enjoy the White Stage regs, and have several. My first wetsuit was a White Stag in the early 1960s, as was my second one. Here's my two White Stag regulators: IMG_1483 by John Ratliff, on Flickr IMG_1484 by John Ratliff, on Flickr This DEEP 1 regulator is an interesting design, totally unique to White Stag. This is a completely unique, balanced floating diaphragm regulator. It took me a while to figure it out, and here's the parts: White Stag--007 by John Ratliff, on Flickr Here's the diagram for the DEEP I second stage: White Stag--006 by John Ratliff, on Flickr White Stag Regulator002 by John Ratliff, on Flickr White Stag also had an early design for a hard-shell BCD, which was really streamlined. If I brought it to Hawaii, I think I'd freak out some divemasters. Although we have communicated/participated in a couple of threads in the General section, I want to also welcome you to the board here, in the appropriate section. Sorry for missing you, but I haven't checked in here as often as I should!
Anyway, we all need a friend who lives on Oahu, so welcome!

Hi Vance, thank you for the warm welcome. I’m thoroughly enjoying your regulator modification posts. There’s a lot of expertise on the board and I hope to learn a few things on rebuilding vintage regulators. Happy New Year!

Welcome, Art! It’s nice to have you join us! This board is a really great group and their input has been crucial in my projects as I learn about restoring old regs. JB that’s an awesome painting and you’re very talented. I had only seen the small avatar version before, so thanks for sharing. I am also a fan of the 400. I've already shared my double hosers with the forum so here are my 3 main single hose setups. The MR-12 there was done by JB. There is another second stage for it which I'm planning to use as an octo on my RAM whenever I return to that project....now that hunting season is done and I'm back into scuba again I think it'll be soon Dacor Olympic 400 & Voit MR-12 by Jim Perdway, on Flickr Conshelf XIV + Scubapro 109 by Jim Perdway, on Flickr

Your tips on the other board regarding restoring Sea-Vue gauges really helped me out. Hope you can get back to Hawaii soon.

It will be great to see your equipment! It’s a bit of a process to share a photo (I haven’t figured out how to do it solely with my phone) but you’ll get the hang of it. In the tech section it’s outlined very well by Phil (vance)
