I've been thinking about sorting this into themes lately. It's looking like I may have some projects coming up where having three distinct set-ups — one for mid to late 1950s, one for the 60s, and one for the 70s — will be advantageous. I know it's way too broad a generalization to do it by the decade like this, but the idea for now is to look at least mostly appropriate for the majority of the intended period. I'd rather err to the early side of them for that reason.
For monetary and spacial reasons, I'd like as much cross-over as possible. I'm also needing multiples as there will be a second diver — made a friend in the area who is currently diving for the Navy and he's interested in the old stuff. Things like regulators and tanks I have the multiples of, so that's no issue.
Here's what I've come up with so far:
Ca. 1958 (Hopefully able to pass for earlier, but not a necessity)
- USD Aquamaster
- Yellow hoses
- USD Mistral
- Yellow hoses
- HW SCUBA — not against passing off a deluxe as earlier here, depending on how things look I'll be checking in with Phil on this
- USD Nemo Gauge
- Wire weight belt
- I know a cotton 1" belt is the most appropriate, and I do have an original one with lots of weight, but a 2" would be easier. I'm conflicted here
- Oval mask — I have one now that's fine, but I would prefer a nicer French example
- Navy MK II knife — any other suggestions here?
- Steel 72 with pillar valve on cotton web harness
- I have two 1/2" taper tanks I can use for this. I was going to make them into doubles, but may keep them separate.
- Duck Feet fins
- Churchill swim fins in green or black
- Beavertail wetsuit — is that project still ongoing, Ty?
1960s (There is crossover but this is aiming for, say, ca. 1963)
- USD Aquamaster
- Black hoses
- USD Mistral
- Black hoses
- Healthways Gold Label and/or Scuba
- Healthways Scubair
- USD Calypso Gauge — I need to source one of these still.
- Wire weight belt
- Oval mask
- Tri-lens an option, but if that was going to be used it would be to represent a later period
- Sea-Vue SPG
- Orange Voit knife
- USD Master Knife
- Steel 72 on Voit cam pak or cotton harness
- Jet fins or UDTs
- Beavertail wetsuit
Late 1960s-70s
- USD Aquarius
- USD Calypso III
- SP MKV
- SeaTec Horsecollar — could use a second horse-collar. May be able to order one through the military catalog.
- Weight belt with flip buckle — have and currently use
- Tri-view mask
- Calypso depth gauge
- Sea-Vue SPG
- Orange Voit knife
- USD Mariner Pak
- Jet fins
- Beavertail wetsuit
Any suggestions or constructive (or otherwise) criticism would be much appreciated. Ideas for smaller items which would help set the intended tone would be especially helpful, i.e. USD Navy torches vs. Darrell-Allen can lights and so on.
