I owned also 2005 mistral, first time I dive with it I feel that he is hard to breath, but I just buy it. So I make my self a complete maintenance. MP is important, must be between 9 and 9.5 ( aqualung titan manual) but the second stage is really important. The ventury is very strong, without the hose, much more than old USD mistral, the second stage must be perfectly adjust , another things is the non return valve. These valves can have a great influence if they are too strong. There not much technicians who well known this regulator.Don't forget that at this time it is the only double hose regulator who passed the EN250 , (EUROPEAN NORM FOR REGULATOR) , The mentor failed when aqualung try to get EN250 certification, first they would purpose a commercial version of the military mentor version. That is why aqualung decided to created something different, two young ingeneers were dedicated to design that. Respectfully Fred Okay, looking at my calculations for changing from BAR to PSI, that's a interstage pressure of between 132 and 140 psig. You say the Venturi is very strong, but Luis says it is very weak due to colliding with the main case. I'm not sure what to think unless I can get o New Mistral and try it out. I'd agree that very few technicians would know about the New Mistral and its particularities. John Hello John , I have a great respect for you and Luis. As i owned a 2005 mistral, I test his ventury, I posted the video in this thread,. It bleed very well, i don,t try to say the 2005 is the best, surely not, but it is not the ugly duck, It was the second DH that I purchase. I think that the designers do not want free flow problems so decided to used a well controlled ventury. I am gone try to compare this weekend with a classic mistral. Respectfully Fred PS I MUST ASK A TEST FLOW BENCH TO 🎅

Hello Screenshot_2023-10-05-17-38-23-807~2 by Patrick Michel, sur Flickr In this little book there are just 5 pages on the 2005 mistral, they says that the performance of the mentor over 20 meters decrease. EN250 consider a overexertion diver at 164ft with 500 psi in the tank and breathworking must be below some Joules/litres ( I must search I think it must be between 2 and 2.5 Joules/ litres, us standard are different and I have no idea about us standard, I must make research, may be John had infos about that.

I just reassemble my 2005 mistral and connected it on a tank and makes breath cycles, and than I connected a royal mistral and do the same. Feeling is different one stage vs two stage, but the 2005 is smooth and as light as the RM, my feeling. And my DAAM Cyclone is lighter on inhalation surface check....

Here is information on the Mentor regulator, from Flashback Scuba: You can download the PDF file of the Mentor's Technical Maintenance Manual from this site too. Here, from that site, is the Montor beside the Aqualung New Mistral: My understanding is that the Mentor regulators had a U.S. Navy restriction to less than a certain depth (60 feet???), and most were used only in pools. This is due to exhalation resistance, I think. John

So the Mentor regulator had U.S. Navy approval l for "MK 25 CONFIDENCE TRAINING IN THE 25 FT FRESHWATER POOL..."
Thanks, that's interesting.

20160126_105529 by Patrick Michel, sur Flickr mistral 2005 2~2 by Patrick Michel, sur Flickr mistral 2005 1~2 by Patrick Michel, sur Flickr Hello A little dive this Saturday morning ( I forget computer and compas) so based on the tank pressure and deep. I think I made 45-55minutes and max deep 45-50 ft. I used the same config that I used during my holidays in September, plus the BCD ( seatec). If you see photos the second stage is well between shoulders. Like this the 2005 breath like a old mistral with 2000 psi in the tank, I start dive with 2900 psi and ended with 580 psi . Frankly he is nice , no regrets to have this reg, surely he takes place compare to a daam, and he is behind the daam on inhalation feeling, but the exhale is easier with the 2005. But he must be well placed like the others DH regulator to be comfortable. PS the best is my RAM or HYDRO TWIN, SNARK3 SILVER, OR ... I LOVE THEM ALL LIKE THEY ARE 😅 Cheer's Fred

Fred, 'Love it. Thanks for the photos and the explanation. Now, sometime I need to dive this regulator. John Hello John An important things is the position of the second stage, I make dive with the 2005 at 120ft with steel back plate and wing , like that he is a bit hard. Like a old mistral with a old strong diaphragm. As I say before he must also well adjust. If you have opportunity to test it, do it , he is not bad. You can easily adjust the mouthpiece, just turn the elbows on each side of the mouthpiece. Cheer's Fred
