I'll have to look in my Fred Roberts book tonight to get the time frame, Mossback, but these regs came into being independently. They share an unbalanced first stage, but Dacor's C-3 (and R-4) were downstream second stages, whereas the Snark III is an upstream second stage, much like the Mistral. In the Snark III, you have a regulator that is basically a Mistral with a fairly constant, LP source (the first stage). It's a different way of looking at this unique regulator; Nemrod said that this is a "three-stage regulator," but the third stage is a safety relief valve that is necessary because the second stage is an upstream stage, and without it the regulator is unsafe (a HP leak would lead to damage to the regulator without the pressure relief valve).

I have been thinking about the mushroom valve (or lack of them). The modern Aqualung air source has a diaphram that is just about the right size. Is there a way to permanetly attach the nippple part to the diaphram so it would be usable for a snark?
I've been toying with ideas, but I don't have a real solution. Also, I don't have an extra diaphram to play with.
