I've been watching the old Sea Hunt episodes again and I was wondering if anyone would like to help me contact the Silver Springs resort in Ocala Florida to see if we could arrange a vintage dive day in the main spring area where a lot of the old Sea Hunt episodes were filmed. Your thoughts please, thanks, Jack.

I missed the Orlando gathering this early Spring and would be very interested in a Silver Spring event. Unfortunately I live here in NY State and would not be very helpful logistically. I would however be willing to assist in anyway via email, internet, etc. And of course would make definite plans to attend. Sorry about being so slow in replying to your post.

Along with Simon Beans I am also up here in NY.
I'd be interested in it as well - however being a nursing student (with 2 more semesters left) (Fall 2004 & Spring 2005) my schedule is funky.
I am off the following though & if it fell within my time off I would consider flying down to Silver Springs for the event.
My time off would be:
June 1 - Aug 20, 2004 Oct 9 - 12, 2004 Dec 16, 2004 - Jan 24, 2005 March 14-18, 2005

Hi all, I thought it might be nice to keep everyone informed of how this Vintage Dive Day at Silver Springs progresses. So I will make regular posts here to aprise all of how the negotiations go with Silver Springs in my trying to arrange a date when we could meet there and dive & fellowship (actually wild partying) for a day. Today, I sent off the first email outlining my request and the basics of what I'd like to initially setup for a day. Stay tuned for the next installment which will probably be Silver Springs response to my first contact. I suspect this might be something that will take a little doing to setup, but who knows, maybe they will be more than willing to work with us and welcome us with open arms for a day. Let's hope so, take care, Jack.

It looks like a fun thing to do. Silver Springs does have a scuba background. I was looking through a copy of George X. Sands book, Skin and Scuba diving, and the Author acknowledges the management of Silver Springs for letting their Scubamaids and Scubamen, pose so helpfully in their Voit diving outfits, for the pictures in the book. Different management now, but , we could get lucky Aloha Turtleguy9

Sounds very entising!!!
Like Scoobie I am also a college student , but pending on what we can work out I will try my hardest to be able to go ..If its in the summer it is very possible. For those guys like myself that will be flying a long ways to get there , I think we should consider some other activities including the spring dive to make it worth while. Ohhhh I know !!!!!!! We can do reenactment of the SeaHunt episodes and James bond scenes from his movies. I would like to be the first person to sign up for the good guys side in the battles so I don;t have to buy a new hose every time the bad guys gets his cut HAHAHAHAHAHAH ;D

Hi all, here's installment number 2 in the great Silver Springs Vintage Dive. I've made contact with the park's Water Park Operations Manager, Mike Friscia, to begin discussions on how to arrange a vintge dive day and social event at the park for a day (over a weekend for all attending) this summer. I'm very happy to see that they're many divers very interested in attending this event if I can make it happen. So, I will continue to speak with Mike and see where I can go with this. Stay tuned for installment number 3, take care all, Jack :-)

I would love to attend, but the only time I seem to leave my island is to visit the DEMA show. This years show is in October, the 13th to the 16th. in Houston Texas. I might be able to make it then. Aloha Turtleguy9

Jack, have you considered another site in Florida for a vintage dive in case the deal with Silver Springs doesn't work out? Try checking into Weeki Wachee spring. They allow scuba groups into the spring when they're not doing mermaid shows. Another neat thing about this spot is that it has an underwater theater for viewing the mermaid shows, so the non-diving relatives can watch what's going on.

Installment No. 3 - hi everyone, yes, progress is proceeding, but slow as I predicted to myself. Got a response from the original contact at the Springs who referred me to Chris Degeroff (spelling?) who I was told handles such requests as ours. Chris was very courteous, and listed intently to me explain what our band of merry men wanted to do at his spring. Oh boy! I'm sure he thought, oh brother, how can I get outta this. He said he would take our request to the "powers that be" and see if things would fly. Response forthcoming. I also said we, as a group, would be willing to do "something for the Springs" to benefit mankind. If somekind of a volunteer effort may be requested of us as part of the deal, I'm sure the majority of us would have no problem with this. It'll probably amount to something like be sure to clean up all your beer cans after the party :-) Just kidding. Anyway, stay tuned for installment no. 4 which I hope will be good news. There was also a great idea posted here for seeing if Weeki Wachee would consider hosting us for a day. Good idea. I'll contact them and check this out as an alternative if Silver Spring decides it doesn't need a dozen Mike Nelsons in the main basin refilming 25 episodes at one time for sindication on the Outdoor Life Network. Stay tuned all, more to come, take care, Jack.

Jack, Thank you for the update. Isn't Weeki Wachee still out of business??? Did the State come in and bail them out or maybe some other source with money. I have not followed it closely so I'm not sure where they stand right now. Since it is just right up the road from my home you would think I would actually follow their status.

Hey Jack and Joe. I have been to both places and let me say that Silver Springs would be a superior dive site. A buddy, my girlfriend and I dove Weeki a year and a half ago and it was ok, but not the greatest and very expensive for what u got. It is true that the non dives can view the whole thing...and that would be cool, but Silver would definately be the DEAL. At any rate I would come no matter where it is provided I can get the time off from work and that would mean I would have to give lots of notice. I think that Silver Springs would be more than excited to welcome back a bunch of double hosers to the place that they got there start via SEA HUNT and Mike Nelson, perhaps there are still some hose cutters lurking in the depths that need to be dispatched!!!!!
