Can anyone in the area of Wazee advise what the weather will be like? I must travel as light as possible so I will be bringing as little as possible. I will be diving a 5 mm suit with gloves and a hood, but need to know what kind of temps I can expect out of the water before and after dives? Will a tank top and a pair of shorts work during the day or am I kidding myself? Any info would be greatly appreciated and I will see u all there! rob aka 1969ivan1

It maybe cool in the evening, with chance of rain in the day. I would also bring a sweatshirt.

I think everyone is meeting in the campground area. Dan will have a big banner/sign up that says "Vintage Scuba Supply". You won't miss it! I think he might get there as early as Thursday night, but certainly by Friday morning. As far as a schedule of events, they are going to play it by ear once everyone gets there, I think.

Linda, Hey thanks for the info. I was also wondering if anyone is bringing an Oxygen first aid kit in case of an emergency, and if anyone has a listing of the nearest Decom chamber etc or DAN's number on a peice of paper in case there is an emergency type situation. I have misplaced mine from our club, and just wondered if the Divemaster in charge of this dive has this info to pass out to the divers that are attending. If there is a missing diver, do you all have a plan to handle this? I am just curious so I know what to be prepared for. Thanks so much. See you all there on Saturday. Gayle

All great questions Gayle! I am sure that many of the divers from the area will have all that info and equipment with them and I know they have been in contact with the dive shops in the area that are close by about the event. I can only speak for myself to say that I will have a 1st aid kit with me and all of the DAN information in my log book and I will be more than happy to share it with you. Here is the hospitial information that I recieved from DAN ...
Black River Falls Hospital 711 W. Adams Court Black RIver Falls WI 54615 715-284-5361
Here is some interesting information on what DAN says about recompression chambers......
Why DAN Doesn't Provide Chamber Location Information
DAN frequently consults on the care, transport and hyperbaric treatment of injured divers, but does not provide chamber location information. This is an effort to get divers with a suspected Decompression Illness into hospital care. In the past, divers would often drive past legitimate healthcare facilities to get to a recompression chamber. Even when divers surface with clear symptoms of an arterial gas embolism, the treatment of choice is the local emergency service and hospital. Your best option is to use existing emergency services for an injured diver.
The reasons:
Hospitals and urgent care facilities have an unlimited supply of oxygen, intravenous fluids and medications. A physician/emergency care provider needs to rule out other illness such as pneumothorax (collapsed lung), myocardial infarction (heart attack), and neurological and musculoskeletal injuries with symptoms similar to DCI. An injured patient needs to be stabilized before and during transport, and should be transferred under medical supervision. Transporting a diver without a proper evaluation may adversely affect the diver's health and treatment outcome. A chamber's operational status can change. Chambers may close for scheduled maintenance, staff vacation, or a limited staff because of a high daytime patient treatment load. The chamber you are driving to may not be available. Prior notification from an evaluating facility is usually necessary to begin the call-in procedure to staff a hyperbaric treatment. Finally, most hyperbaric facilities have regular daytime business hours and are not staffed in the evenings and on weekends. In fact, some chamber facilities choose not to staff their unit after hours and do not wish to treat divers. Most cases of decompression sickness report for evaluation after normal business hours. If you suspect a diver has a dive-related injury and needs evaluation, you should safely:
Monitor Airway, Breathing, Circulation ? Provide 100 percent oxygen if you are a trained oxygen provider Call the local EMS for transport or assist in the transport of the injured diver to medical care Call the DAN Emergency number 919 684 8111 or 919 684 4DAN (4326) collect for consult and advice. If you are uncertain about symptoms which occur hours or days after diving, and there is no emergency, or you wish to ask questions about the signs and symptoms of decompression illness, contact the DAN Information Line (919) 684-2948, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday.

As far as I know, there is no Divemaster in charge of this dive. We are just a group of divers interested in the same thing, vintage diving. Everyone is responsible for themselve.

Bryan, Thanks so much for the information. I really appreciate it. I am just used to diving with my club that has a dive plan, safety diver on shore or similar person, check in point with a check in sheet and check out sheet so no missing divers, emergency dive plan, oxygen kit with firstaid kit etc. The info is great that you posted. I didn't know that DAN would not give out data on Decom chambers. St. Lukes Hosptial in Milwaukee area has one, or I should say they did awhile ago. Just so you know. (I am sure you already know that, I may be behind the times.) In the olden days, St. Lukes had tours of the chamber and would take you down to 185 feet in it. It was great fun. I will see you all there. By the way, I have a Poseidon Jetstream that is freeflowing a bit. Is anyone going to be there who knows maybe how to tweak this unit into behaving? Gayle

Just a note to say Thank You so much for a great time on the Wazee Campout. Neil, Dohn and I had a VERY VERY good time and my hat is off to all of you all for making us so genuinely welcome into the group and on the dives. Everything was well planned, safety oriented, and organized and I really appreciate that. I have had many losses of good diving friends over the years, and I miss them greatly. On this campout / vintage dive, I was reminded very much of my diving friends in the past with all your wit, humor and free spirit. Thank you all again. I had a great time.

I was not able to attend but I just spoke with Dan on the phone and he feels that the event was a HUGE success. He is having technical difficulties with the computer there in MN that is available to him, so he asked me to come here and thank everyone for making this 1st annual vintage dive such a wonderful experience! He was really thrilled to see you all there and he couldn't be more pleased with the whole experience -- it was great! The food, the films, the diving, new friends -- it was just a really positive experience. Thank you , everyone, from Vintage Scuba Supply!
