The Inland Divers Vintage Dive Club made a second dive on the famous sunken airplane in Green Lake, yesterday, July 6th. The divers were, Frans Carlson, Dan Barringer, Dave Krafft, Will Adams, and Guy Hanson. The vis. was not too good, about 5-6ft. But we still had a good dive, our Double Hose Regulators worker just great down on the airplane at 40ft. For those going to Wazee in Aug. and want to stay in a Motel close to Wazee the phone No. of the Best Western Arrowhead Lodge, is 715-284-9471. This is where my wife and I will be staying. Frans

Diving on the military L-19 (Cessna 140 or 150) is probably the best wreck dive I could ever imagine. The plane crashed in 1958 and has eluded searchers until only last year. After the plane crashed, the pilot was found dead, floating in the lake the next morning. He probably died of exposure because the season was Fall and the water temperature was very cold. The plane ran out of fuel at night and after crash landing on the lake, the pilot had no idea which way to swim for shore because it was dark.
When we dove on the wreck a couple weeks ago, there had probably been less than 18 divers ever on it, and it was exactly as it was when it crashed. There were holes in the front windscreen, but we suspect they were from fishing boat anchors over the years. In the wreck, we discovered some of the pilot's personal possessions under his seat, such as his electric shaver and vinyl checkbook cover, dated 1957. Of course we left everything as we found it.
The plane crash is legend in the small MN town and some local citizens, along with the American Legion, obtained possession and permission from the Air Force to raise the wreck so it can be diplayed in town. No doubt it will bring in many tourists.
